MMS struggles against Hillsboro

Marion Middle School had trouble with Hillsboro Thursday as all three teams lost to the cross-county rival.

Trailing 29-20 heading into the finial period, the seventh graders made one final run. Kayley Heerey scored all seven of her points in the final quarter, and as a team Marion outscored the Trojans, 10-2.

Lindsay Hett scored three of her team-high nine points in the final frame, but the Wildcats fell, 31-29.

Kristen Steinborn also scored seven points for Marion.

The eighth graders fell way behind early, but fought back as well. The Wildcats trailed 14-3 at the break, but made it closer in the second half. They outscored Hillsboro 7-6 in the fourth quarter, only to lose 26-11.

Jessica Timm led the team with eight points.

The mixed team ended the night with a loss, but in opposite fashion.

Leading 8-6 at the half, Marion went scoreless in the third quarter, falling to its rival, 20-13.

Emily Meador had six points for Marion.

Marion will play Feb. 5-7 in the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament. The tournament will be in Lindsborg and Hesston and will mark the end of the season.
