MMS students named to district honor band, choir

Fourteen Marion Middle School students will travel to Andover Saturday to compete in the KMEA (Kansas Music Educator's Association) South Central District Middle School honor band and/or choir.

MMS vocal students named to the honor choir are Elisa Gayle and Jandee Sharp, sopranos; Tedra Eis and Allison Meador, altos; Matthew Kirkpatrick and Clay Riggs, tenors; and Luke Bowers and Isaac Guetersloh, baritones.

MMS students competing in the honor band are Jordan Timm on trombone; Danielle Cope, clarinet; Kari Tajchman, alto saxophone; Kirk Hanson, French horn; Erin Richmond, flute, and Riley Ross, trombone.

MMS band instructor Mike Connell and vocal instructor Adam White both said it was an honor to be named to the groups.

"Students are selected from across the district," Connell said. "And Marion is in a very large district which includes the entire Wichita metroplex."

Geographically, the district stretches from Salina south to the Kansas border, and west to east from Kingman to Herington.
