MMS suffers three tough losses at home to Trojans
Marion Middle School battled until the end Thursday but came up short in three games against Hillsboro.
The A-team battled back from a 21-16 halftime deficit, and trailed just 27-24 heading into the final quarter.
The Wildcats outscored the Trojans 9-7 in the fourth, but came up short 34-33.
Lindsay Hett continued her hot play with 10 points. Julia Zeiner, Kristen Geis, and Kayley Heerey each added five points.
Kristen Steinborn had four points, and Emali Kelsey and Bridget Lundy each added two points.
The B-team fought back from a larger deficit but also lost by one point, 25-24.
Trailing 22-10 in the third quarter, the Wildcats went on a 14-3 run to cut the lead to one with two minutes left. Both teams missed free throws down the stretch, and Marion failed to get off a shot after having the ball with nine seconds left in the game.
Donna Cady led the Wildcats with 10 points. Shelby Purcell was next with six points, and Josie Freeby and Anna Laurin each had four points.
Trailing 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter the C-team was outscored 14-7 in the final six minutes, falling to the Trojans, 35-27.
Kayla Williams led all MMS scorers for the night with 11 points. Ashley Ratzloff helped out with seven points, and Alex Cain added three points.
The Wildcats were in action Monday and will play their final games of the season this weekend in the Mid-Central Activities Association tournament.
Chase County
C-team finished out its season Monday with a victory against Chase County in Florence.
Hess led Marion with 12 points in the 28-17 victory.
Jordan Harper added six points and Shayla Rahe had three.
Cain, Williams, and Ratzloff each had two points, and Madison Chamberland chipped in with one point.
