Mostly Malarkey: Ain't no flies

Our Uncle Skeet had a way of saying things. One of his favorite expressions was "there ain't no flies on that guy."

We think he'd be proud of his nephew who, a year following serious illness, has been in a "no flies" mode.

Since the first of the year your Ol' Editor has traveled to Philadelphia for a meeting of the Army Divisions Association and a visit to historic Valley Forge; gone to Norfolk, Va., to check out hotels and banquet facilities for an upcoming convention, done the same chore (if you can call it that) at Milwaukee, Wis., and this past two weeks found him in Germany, Belgium, and Luxembourg on a battlefield tour with nearly 40 others and to dedicate a bronze plaque.

He also kept busy "putting out the paper" (as the late Rolla Clymer used to say about editors so busy with meetings and golf that they didn't have time to "put out the paper.")

The Marion, Hillsboro, and Peabody newspapers have a great crew of dedicated professionals. With or without the OE (maybe he's in the way) they've put out more pages and a better product than ever before.

That should be enough to keep a guy busy but, to keep flies from perching, the OE will continue to keep busy this summer: a trip to a four-day newspaper convention in June at Joplin, Mo.; a convention of the 99th Infantry Division at Pittsuburg, Pa., in July; and a mini-reunion of Army veterans at Ruidoso, N.M. in August.

Uncle Skeet would say, "Ain't no flies on that guy."
