Mothers are wonderful

Jack Spratt could eat no fat. His wife could eat no lean. Between the two of them they licked the platter clean."

If Mom is on the Atkins Diet and Dad is on the South Beach, what happens to the platter? I always thought you shouldn't take seconds.

On one of Oprah's programs her guest was Maria Shriver, the California governor's wife (I can't spell his name). What a passionate, energetic woman. She has just written a book called, "What is Wrong with Grandpa?" for her children to explain to them their grandfather's actions, since he has Alzheimer's Disease. Her father, Sargent Shriver, is the man who started the Peace Corps and has done other things good for our country.

The topic of mother came up and she was so enthusiastic and excited. She said sometimes when women are asked what they do, they answer, "Oh, I'm just a mom." She said being a good mom is the most important job in the world. Who else loves you, feeds you, rocks you, or puts a cool cloth on your forehead when you are sick? Who reads and sings to you? Who kisses the "ouchies" and wipes away your tears? Who taught you "Now I lay me down to sleep," and tucked you into bed?

I remember when I was five or six or so, I told my mother "I hate you!" Do I remember why I said those terrible words to my dear, sweet mother? No. But the words still stick in my memory. I doubt I even said "I'm sorry."

I am sorry and honor my wonderful mother. I hope you and your mother have a happy Mother's Day!
