Motorcycle run to be held April 24 in Marion years ago
Marion residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the KVC motorcycle run April 24, said Rose Vinduska of KVC.
Vinduska and Deanna Klenda, also of KVC, spoke Friday at the Marion Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon about the second annual KVC Motorcycle Ride for Kids.
The event will raise funds for non-budgeted items such as school fees and computer updating.
Kaw Valley Center for Behavior Health Care is a child placement service providing services in Marion County.
"There have been more than 1,000 flyers distributed all over the state," said Klenda. News releases have been sent to radio stations and newspapers statewide.
More than 300 gift bags will be available for the motorcyclists with items from participating businesses, including Marion Chamber of Commerce members.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a poker run with the best hand winning $100. Entry fee for the poker run is $10.
The run will begin in Marion's Central Park, with the first stop at Al's Café in Lost Springs. From Al's the riders will go to Durham to an area behind the Red Barn Restaurant to pick up their next card. From Durham, the bikers will go to Klose and Kozy in Hillsboro, then Peabody, and back to Marion.
Members of the Christian Motorcycle Club will sponsor the poker run.
The remainder of the day's activities will be in Central Park. A barbecue, live music, auction, raffle, and vendors will be in the park throughout the day.
"We have donations from Kansas City, Salina, Wichita, Emporia, and Marion," said Vinduska. "We need the chamber's support and participation from the Marion community."
Vinduska and Klenda are proud to promote Marion for this event.
"Somebody is going to come in and see the 'free lots' sign and open a business," said Klenda.
