MPD: Officers conduct investigations
Marion Police Officers had a varied week of catching dogs, checking residents, and providing assistance to various agencies.
Sept. 18: An individual met with an officer regarding a civil matter. Citations were issued for two dogs running at-large and no city dog tags. An officer assisted with capturing a loose horse in the area of Cedar and Kellison streets. An individual was arrested on an out-of-county warrant. Response was given to a 911 hang-up; everything was OK. An ambulance crew received assistance. An officer responded to the Florence area to assist with a domestic dispute.
Sept. 19: Two funeral escorts were provided. A 911 hang-up was a result of telephone problems at a residence. A complaint of criminal deprivation of property was filed. An officer assisted with traffic control for a wide vehicle coming through town. An officer attended training at Topeka. Two warnings were issued to juveniles for bicycle violations. Suspicious people were reported operating metal detectors on private property; everything was OK.
Sept. 20: A 911 hang-up was checked; everything was OK. An aggressive dog was reported in the area of Sherman and Elm streets; an officer accompanied residents to their house but was unable to catch the dog; the owner was notified. Officers were at Marion Elementary School for DRAGNET class. A dog was picked up for running at-large in the 300 block of South Roosevelt Street. Telephone problems resulted in a 911 hang-up; everything was OK.
Thursday: A welfare check of a subject on a bicycle in Central Park resulted in the Ministerial Alliance providing shelter for the wet and cold individual. Telephone problems continued to result in 911 disconnects. Electrical crews received assistance in locating trees that were causing problems with electricity. A delayed hit and run accident was reported. An officer assisted with traffic control at an accident at U.S.-56/77.
Friday: Barricades were set up downtown for a pep rally. Officers responded to a suspicious fire at Shawmar Oil Company, 1116 E. Main. A gas leak was reported in the 300 block of North Lincoln Street. A warning was issued for no headlights on a bicycle. A reckless driver was investigated in the area of Lincoln and Main streets. A warning was issued for a noise ordinance violation.
Saturday: City crews were notified regarding a problem with a city sewer lift station. An open business door was discovered; the owner was contacted and the building was secured.
Sunday: Traffic control was provided for Kansas Patriot Guard escort. A warning was issued for a dog running at-large.
