Murphy honored on 90th birthday years ago

Don't forget the family fun night Saturday evening at the senior center. The Prairie Pals have planned enjoyable activities for all ages.
Three Tampa Triple T's 4-H members will participate Saturday in the regional Club Day in El Dorado. Alisa Fernandes will compete in public speaking. Amanda Kleiber and Julie Rziha will give demonstrations.
Your correspondent has recently received both good news and bad news. The good news is that her column for the Hillsboro Star-Journal, "One Woman's View," was awarded second place in its category in the Kansas Press Association awards. The bad news is that she has been diagnosed with lupus. Even that is only moderately bad news; the doctor assures there are many worse ailments.
Cecilia Rziha directed the junior high drama production Saturday evening with the help of Amanda Kleiber, assistant director, and Kristin Mueller, stage manager. A number of other Tampa youth were involved in the performance of "The Trial of Amanda Marie Locks," or "Goldilocks Contempts the Court," either as actors or stage crew. Gloria Belton was a member of the crew. Cast members were Julie Rziha, Nikki Stenzel, Amy Hajek, Chelsey Tajchman, Kristine Jirak, Aurora Salamone, Allie Will, Ty Remy, Kylie Burhoop, Brooke Carlson, Dane Moore and Teaira Turner. Jennifer Montgomery was the faculty sponsor. The Centre Stage Variety Show was presented after the play with five acts. Amanda Kleiber and Andrea Carlson performed piano solos, Kristin Mueller and Cecilia Rziha gave prose readings, and Cecilia and Nicole Gehrke sang "The Star Spangled Banner."
John and Pat Schwartzman of Salina spent Sunday with his mother, Helen Schwartzman.
Reuben and Lucille Kerbs and Rustyn Kerbs went to Abilene Saturday afternoon. They joined Doug and Connie Thompson, Allison and Taylor and some of Taylor's friends at the bowling alley, where the youngster's bowled in celebration of Taylor's 7th birthday. Later, they went to McDonald's, where they met Tim and Marchelle Kerbs of Salina, Roger Thompson of Junction City, and Lynda Lowry and Barbara Stensaas of Abilene. All enjoyed supper and birthday cake and Taylor opened her presents.
Frank and Anna Mae Stika, Lisa Hanschu, James and Anna, and Tom and Lori Moldenhauer attended the junior high play and the Centre variety show Saturday evening. Nikki Stenzel was in the play cast.
Jeanne Rziha took Cecilia Rziha and Andrea Carlson to Hays Saturday. Cecilia auditioned for a music scholarship and Andrea was her accompanist.
Adeline Bernhardt and Leona Kleiber attended the junior high play and the high school variety show at Centre Saturday evening. Leona's granddaughter, Amanda Kleiber, played a piano solo and served as assistant director.
Lucy Young of Wichita visited Lois Sklenar and Valerie Hampton Saturday.
Ronnie and Lisa Hanschu and Anna and Frank and Anna Mae Stika attended a basketball game at Junction City Saturday morning to watch James Weber play.
Georgia Spohn visited Marguerite Goertz Friday morning in Hillsboro.
Adeline Bernhardt was a dinner guest at the café Friday of Jack, Sharon, and Ken Grosse of Peabody.
Centre's 7th grade quiz team took first place at the league meet in Alta Vista Friday and also placed fourth in another meet on Thursday. Team members were Kristine Jirak, Julie Rziha, Allie Will, Ty Remy, and Brooke Carlson. The 8th grade team also competed in both meets, but did not place. Kevin Mueller is on that team.
The ladies of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Ramona invited the Lutheran Women's Missionary League from St. John's to a supper and worship service Thursday evening in observance of the World Day of Prayer. Women from the St. John's Church who attended were Leona Kleiber, Evelyn Hensley, Adeline Bernhardt, Edna Mueller, Phyllis Mueller, Betty Mueller, Joyce Medley, Edna Backhus, and Cynthia Bentz. The mission offering will go to the Lutheran Valley Retreat Center in Woodland, Colo.
Adeline Bernhardt spent from March 3 to 6 in Wichita with Barney and Linda Bernhardt and Megan.
