Myrl Hertel

Myrl Lorraine (Vincent) Sisson Bertel, 78, formerly of Burns, died Feb. 1, 2002.

She was born July 24, 1923, at Burns, the daughter of the late Ruth Lilley and Wilson Vincent. The Lilley family was pioneers in the Burns area.

Her husband operated the Ford Motor Co. agency at Burns.

She grew up in Burns and graduated form Burns Consolidated High School in the class of 1941.

After graduating from Wichita Business College she moved to San Diego, Calif., where she worked as a scheduler for an aircraft factory.

She married Wilbert "Buck" Sisson in 1946. He was in the Navy. The couple had six children, Carol, Bobby, Neil, Jacquie, Dennis, and Steve.

Neil and Bobby preceded their mother in death, as did her parents and her brother Bobby.

She married Harold Hertel in 1958. They operated several businesses and managed apartments. He died Jan. 4, 2001.

She is survived by four children, 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 27 great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

A great parent and good friend she had a big smile and outstanding alto voice. She sang at many Sunday school and church functions.

She had been bedfast for more than a year prior to her death and remained alert.

Following cremation, her ashes were scattered at sea in San Francisco Bay on Feb. 14 as family and friends lighted candles in her memory.
