Naomi Haas

Naomi W. Haas departed this life at Newton Medical Center, Newton, on June 8, 2008. She was 85 years old.

Born Feb. 11, 1923, at Lost Springs, she was the second child of Gottfried and Martha (Procknau) Laubhan. Brother and sisters include Wilbur Laubhan and Norma Reimond, both deceased, and Wilma Peters.

A lifelong resident of Marion County, Naomi was united in marriage with Willard F. Haas on June 1, 1941, at Lincolnville. The couple made their first home on a farm located east of Marion.

Their union was blessed by the birth of two daughters, Donna Mae and Doris Marie. At the time of Willard's death in 1995, they had celebrated 54 years together.

Throughout Naomi's life, she worked as a waitress, Stanley home dealer, factory worker, and homemaker. She loved to be outside. She enjoyed yard work, gardening, and fishing. Her daughters remember her as a seamstress, often making their clothes and quilting.

Naomi selflessly gave of her time, driving back and forth to Marion for 13 years to ensure that her mother's needs were met.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard; parents, Gottfried and Martha Laubhan; brother, Wilbur Laubhan; sister, Norma Reimond; and sons-in-law Neil Herbert and Raymond Britton.

Britton and wife Florinda, Derek N. Herbert and wife Aimee, Martha Vera, and Nathan D. Herbert; four great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. June 11 at Baker Funeral Home Chapel, Peabody, with the Rev. Wayne Handle of Baxter Springs officiating.
