Native Americans to perform Aug. 14 years ago
Native American dancers will performance at 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at Marion City Library, 100 Library Street.
Pejuta Mato, a group of six dancers and four singers, will present various dances and song in native regalia.
"Pejuta Mato means bear medicine in Lakota language," said group member Melody Rutledge. "The bear is a source of strength and a medicine that heals people emotionally and physically."
In addition to the drums and dancing, Rutledge will present stories and histories of tribes during the performance.
"Different tribes will be represented within the group," Rutledge said.
"The purpose of our performance is to educate the community of the Native American culture and to break down any stereotypes people, especially children, might have about Indians," Rutledge said.
The performance will be on the library's east lawn.
Spectators may bring lawn chairs and blankets. In case of rain, the performance will be at the Marion City Building.
The event will be sponsored by Tampa State Bank and the library.
