Nettie Rittel

Nettie Irene Rittel, 92, died March 13, 2002, at Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.

The eldest daughter of Tena (Bagenski) and Dietrich Rempel, she was born April 6, 1909, at the family home south of Marion.

After graduation from Marion High School in 1930, Nettie worked for many years as a waitress at Coon's Restaurant in Marion, and the Iron Kettle in Hillsboro.

She also was a radio dispatcher for the Marion County Sheriff's Department and was an Avon representative for many years.

She married Edward Rittel Nov. 5, 1931, at the First United Methodist parsonage in Marion. She and Ed had three children, Doris Patricia, Edward Richard, and Dennis Stephen.

Rittel did latchhook, was an avid reader, a bowler, and gardener. She was a member of Valley United Methodist Church, Business and Professional Women, and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Linder and two grandchildren, all of Lamar Colo.; her son, Richard, of Marion Manor; brother, George Gilbert Rempel, of Walnut Creek, Calif.; three sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Edward; their infant son, Dennis Stephen; three brothers, Abraham, Edward, and Dietrich; and four sisters, Sarah Nickel, Dorothy Williams, Tena (Lucille) Olsen, and Margaret Adler preceded her in death.

Services were held Monday morning at Valley United Methodist Church, with burial at Marion Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Marion City Public Library.

The Rev. Kennedy Mukwindidza officiated at the service. Casket bearers were John Reznicek, Larry Olsen, Robert Nickel, Eugene Christensen, Herb Regier, and Chris Nickel.

Greg Bowers sang "O God Our Help In Ages Past" and "Fairest Lord Jesus." Laura Williams was the organist.
