Never heard of them
We never heard of the band, "38 Special," until recently when they signed up to become the star attraction of Marion's upcoming Chingasassa Days celebration.
That's OK. "38 Special" never heard of us either. In fact they probably never heard of Marion County and might not be certain where Kansas is located.
But they'll attract a crowd to Marion's Central Park June 1, and they'll go away with a soft spot in their hearts for the people of Kansas.
The annual festival at Marion has proven to be one of the best public relations events the community enjoys.
People living elsewhere marvel in wonderment how a town the size of Marion can attract top-flight performers of the day. And, in turn, crowds to hear them play.
It has been proven in the past. A good well-known band which costs big bucks will be welcomed by an audience which responds.
The bands appeal to a young audience that represents the future. Marion is right to make an effort to attract such people. Other local festivals appeal to a different age group. But all local festivals can be enjoyed by all age groups.
Maybe you'll not buy a ticket. Maybe you'll stay home and watch TV reruns. But if you go you'll see your OE and hundreds of others enjoying it in Central Park. Join us, maybe you'll like it.
