News from the county lake

By TOOTSIE SNELLING

Marion County Park & Lake reporter

Spring came in but it was kind of cool with the north wind blowing. I was hoping to get out in the yard Saturday to do some work but decided it was too cool out there. Sunday didn't prove to be much better with the north wind still blowing, but by late afternoon the wind died down and it felt much better. Neighbor Marge and I decided it was warm enough to walk around the lake to put in some miles for our walk across Kansas. Our team walked 98 miles this past week, which is pretty good. Hope we continue to do as good this week.

The fishermen were out this weekend, all trying to catch something. Due to the cool temperatures and cool water it was slow. The boat fishermen did catch some wipers, white bass, and drum using lures. The bank fishermen did the best, fishing for channel cat using worms, chicken livers, and shad sides. It was reported that Marion Toland caught several nice channel cat this past week at the north end. Heard a few good reports on walleye being taken off the face of the dam at Marion Reservoir, but the north winds didn't help out there over the weekend.

We were busy Saturday and Sunday writing licenses and permits and trying to watch parts of the basketball game. Aren't those Jayhawks doing great? Now we have to wait untill Friday night to see them again. The K-State ladies won too.

We have been working in the hall all week getting it ready for the season. The guys have been working around the lake picking up branches and trash. Marge and I always pile up the beer bottles and cans we find when we walk. We didn't realize so many people drank while they were out driving around!! I used to carry a plastic bag with me but they wouldn't fit and it was too heavy to carry around. There sure are a lot of people who eat McDonalds' food too, as we find the cups and wrappers in the ditches.

Dale and I attended the Log Home and Remodeling show Friday afternoon at Century II. Shelia Anderson and her son had a booth there. We visited with them awhile. Afterward, we stopped by Mark and Leann Lewman's in Sedgwick and visited them before returning home.

This week is spring break for most schools. Last year at this time, Dale and I and two of my sisters were in Florida on the beach visiting with my brother and his wife, walking the beaches, picking up shells, and watching gorgeous sunsets. Guess I'll have to get my pictures out and lay them on the floor and dream that I'm there again. Maybe next year!

Don't forget Chat and Dine April 3. There always is good food and friendship.
