NHS donates $1000 to theater project years ago
Members of the Marion High School National Honor Society donated $1,000 Friday to the Marion Advancement Campaign.
Chelsea Arnhold, NHS member, made the formal presentation Saturday evening during a fund-raiser dinner.
The funds will be used for the foundation's first project of a community center/movie theater complex on Eisenhower Drive.
The 26-member organization raise funds annually through cookie dough sales held in November.
Last year, the organization donated a total of $1,000 to Marion County EMS, Marion Fire Department, and Florence Fire Department.
"This organization teaches leadership and community service," said Diana Costello, NHS sponsor. "When they participate in a community service project, they can appreciate members of the community who volunteer and give of their time."
NHS is responsible for the organization of the annual citywide cleanup day before Old Settlers' Day.
Students may be members of the organization if they maintain a 3.65 grade point average and are recommended by MHS faculty based on character, service, and leadership.
