No-brainer

School board members face some tough issues, there's no question. Random drug testing isn't one of those. It's a "no-brainer."

Patrons and teachers made their thoughts known Monday night at the Marion-Florence USD 408 board of education meeting. They want random drug testing.

Superintendent of Schools Gerry Henderson mentioned three schools in Kansas that currently have a drug testing policy.

The question might be asked, "If it's such a good thing why aren't more schools doing it?"

The answer doesn't matter. The point is, Marion should be doing random drug testing. Why wait to see what other schools are doing? Drugs are a problem in this community.

Isn't it better for Marion to be a leader in the fight against drugs than to sit back and wait for someone else to lead us in the right direction?

Proactive or reactive? It's a "no-brainer."
