No one attends Tampa budget hearing

No residents attended Tampa's budget hearing, held Aug. 4 with the regular city council meeting. Mayor Jim Clemmer announced the tax levy is 1.8 mills less than last year, but valuation has increased.
A hearing on the demolition progress will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the city council meeting. The meeting date has been changed due to the Labor Day holiday.
One of the requirements of the demolition grant is the passage of a resolution affirming the city's fair housing project. The motion for the resolution was made and passed.
Work on the demolition project nearly is complete. Rose Mary Saunders, grant coordinator, recommended the council vote to pay the contractor and architect the remainder owed to them subject to the council's approval of the completed project. This action was indicated by the fact that work will probably be finished before the next council meeting.
It was voted to pay Grosse Construction $4,000 and William Morris $364.75 subject to approval of their finished work. These payments will come from grant funds.
Tom Nelson attended the meeting to request the city's support of Communities in Schools. The group voted to contribute $200 to CIS.
Rock and millings will be purchased from the county for street work, particularly on the access road to the elevator.
Frank Stika will be responsible for the senior center, along with care of the public rest rooms. He will collect $75 in advance from those booking events in the hall, as well as a $50 deposit. If the center is left clean and undamaged, the deposit will be returned. If not, Stika will clean the hall (or hire it done) and keep the deposit.
Bills approved for payment included $93 for publication of the budget, $450 to Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk and Loyd for preparing the budget, and $182.03 to Jones Electric for repairing a light at the ball diamond.
