Norman Kahns
Norman H. Kahns, 85, died Jan. 24, 2006, at his home in Mount Vernon, Wash.
Born April 4, 1920, at Lincolnville, he was the son of John and Frieda Kahns.
He was on Utah Beach on D-Day and operated as a messenger behind enemy lines. He received the Bronze Star in May 2003, at a celebration in his honor.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola; brothers, Alvin and LaVerne; and sister, Vera Heilmann.
Survivors include two stepdaughters, Bette Pearson and Jane Branter; sisters-in-law, Almeda Kahns, Marilyn Forbes, Lily Glassmeyer, and Florence Newman; step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Hawthorne Memorial Park, Mount Vernon, Wash.
A memorial fund has been established with Skagit Hospice, Mount Vernon, Wash.
