Officers are busy responding to calls
Marion Police Officers responded to a variety of calls for assistance and complaints during the past two weeks.
Aug. 29: An officer attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving when it attempted to elude officers before running into a garage in the 400 block of North Fourth Street, Marion; the subject was arrested for DUI. A runaway juvenile was located and turned over to the sheriff's department. An outside agency received assistance with an investigation regarding aggravated indecent liberties with a child. A stranded motorist received assistance at Eisenhower and U.S.-56.
Aug. 30: An investigation was conducted following a complaint of a subject attempting to give rides to children who were walking home from school. A non-injury accident was investigated at Freeborn and Main streets, Marion. An open business door was located, checked, and secured.
Aug. 31: A subject was arrested on a Morris County warrant. Road debris was cleared from U.S.-56. A warning was issued to juveniles who were riding skateboards on Lincoln and Highland streets. An open business door was located, checked, and secured. A warning was issued to a trucking company for driving on Eisenhower Road.
Sept. 1: A 911 hang-up was checked; everything was OK. An open business door was located, checked, and secured.
Sept. 2: A check scam was investigated. A junk vehicle letter was served. An officer assisted with Bucks for Buckles program at Marion Middle School and High School. Officers responded to a fight at Elm and Main streets; one subject was arrested for battery and two juveniles were arrested for possession of alcohol. A hit and run accident was investigated at Freeborn and Lawrence streets.
Sept. 3: A stolen bicycle was reported. A subject was arrested for theft of lost or mislaid property. An open business door was located, checked, and secured. A welfare check was provided in the 300 block of South First Street. Assistance was provided at St. Luke Hospital with a subject in the emergency room.
Sept. 4: Motorists were given assistance with directions to Florence and Emporia. A wild animal was killed in a garage on North Lincoln Street. Damage was noted to a road closed sign by Marion Elementary School. A citation was issued for loud music from a motor vehicle.
Sept. 5: Subjects were advised not to ride all terrain vehicles on city property. Response was provided to a domestic disturbance; victim was informed of a protection from abuse order. An officer responded to Marion Assisted Living regarding the report of a suspicious person. Information was taken on a harassment investigation.
During the week, officers drove 865 miles, issued one warning citation, and made six arrests.
Sept. 6: An officer responded to a report of a prowler; no prowler was located in the area. A bicycle was found on Eisenhower Drive and returned to owner. A suspect confessed to damaging city road signs this past week; the case will be turned over to the city attorney. A civil stand-by was provided. A burglary and theft report was taken in the 100 block of West Santa Fe Street.
Wednesday: A dog at-large was reported in the 300 block of Garfield; the owner was not located. An emergency message was delivered. A follow-up investigation was conducted on a burglary case. An open business door was located, checked, and secured. A warning was issued for defective tail lights.
Thursday: An open car door was investigated; everything was OK. A motorist whose vehicle ran out of gas received assistance.
Friday: Inspections of vehicle identification numbers were conducted. A motor vehicle burglary was investigated. An officer contacted a locksmith for an individual who had locked his keys in his vehicle. Assistance was provided to an ambulance crew with a run. Response was given to a verbal domestic call in the 300 block South First Street. A warning was issued for an expired tag.
Saturday: The department participated in a training exercise at St. Luke Hospital. A bicycle was picked up in the 200 block of North Elm Street. A dog running at-large was picked up.
Sunday: An officer responded to a verbal family argument in the 400 block of North Fourth Street. A juvenile was picked up and transported to juvenile intake for consumption of alcohol by a minor.
