Old Settlers' Day is Saturday
"Volunteers: The Backbone of Our Community" is this year's theme of the 96th annual Old Settlers' Day parade.
The parade is at 11 a.m. Saturday. Lineup is on Walnut Street and side streets. The parade will begin at Walnut and Main streets and go east to Elm Street.
Weekend festivities begin Friday morning with a golf tournament at Marion Country Club. Following Friday night's homecoming football game, the public is invited to an open house at the country club.
Old Settlers' Day run begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Marion County Lake with a 5k run followed by a one-mile fun run. Register at Marion Chamber of Commerce.
Following the parade, a picnic will be held at Central Park with Marion Kiwanis Club serving a beef burger meal. Games for all ages will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a performance by Marion High School band at 2 p.m., and class introductions at 2:30 p.m.
A community dance, sponsored by the class of 1987, will be from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at Marion County Lake Hall.
VFW Auxiliary
to serve breakfast
The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6958 will serve a breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Saturday at the post home, 420 W. Santa Fe, Marion.
Breakfast casseroles, breads, fresh fruit, coffee, milk, and juice will be served. Coffee will be available until parade time.
Marion County Park
and Lake Museum
open house is Sunday
The public is invited to attend an open house Sunday at Marion County Park and Lake Museum. The door will be open at 2 p.m.
The little, limestone building housing the museum is located west of the lake shop.
Refreshments will be served.
