Oliver Peterson
Oliver E. Peterson, 99, Burdick, died June 18, 2008, at Herington Hospital.
Born July 27, 1908, at Andover, Ill., he was the son of Frank and Huldah (Swanson) Peterson.
He graduated from Diamond Valley High School in 1926, then worked as a custodian there for 17 years before joining the U.S. Navy.
He owned and operated the first Dairy Queen in Winfield from 1950 to 1975, then moved back to Burdick.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Iver, Glenn, and Martin; two sisters, Minerva Nelson and Myrtle Peterson; and his parents.
Survivors include three nephews, Roger Peterson, Rolland Peterson, and Richard Peterson; niece, Marie Thornton; and many great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hebron Lutheran Church, Burdick, with Pastor Bill Peterson officiating, and with military honors following.
Inurnment will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorial funds have been established with the Salvation Army, St. Jude's Hospital, or Hebron Lutheran Church, in care of Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington.
