Ona Griffith
Ona Lavada Griffith, daughter of Harry and Della (Hooten) Ferguson, was born Oct. 11, 1911, near Mulvane.
She died Feb. 1, 2002, at the St. Luke Hospital.
One of 10 children, Ona grew up in the Mulvane area and attended the public schools there. She graduated from the Mulvane High School in 1930
She married Earl F. Callison in 1930. Two sons, Earl and Larry Lee, and one daughter, Anita, were born. Ona worked many years in various Wichita flower shops.
She was united in marriage to Lewie A. Griffith in 1960. Lewie owned a cabin at the Marion County Lake. They sold their homes in Wichita, added to the cabin, and in 1962 moved to the lake. Both Ona and Lewie loved to fish; Ona also loved to dance. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of her great joys was to have the family come to her home for Christmas and other holidays, as well as family occasions.
Ona was a skilled and hard working florist. She worked at Main Street Flowers for many years with many owners. Ona was an artist in other areas. She always did crafts and arrangements.
She was active in the Chat and Dine Club at Marion County Lake and at Marion Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, and other crafts. Ona was a member of the Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Harry and Della Ferguson; her husband, Lewie; brothers, Elmer, Lloyd, Sidney, Cecil, Boyd, and Luther; and sisters, Emma Satterthwaite and Hattie Callison.
Survivors include her sons, Earl and his wife Karol Callison of Wichita; Larry and his wife Rosetta Callison of Arkansas City; daughter, Anita Rikli and husband, Gary of Wichita; step-daughter, Dorothy Johnson of Wichita; brother, Estel Ferguson of Wichita; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Eastmoor United Methodist Church with committal service Tuesday afternoon at White Chapel Memorial Garden, Wichita, with Pastor Robert L. Priest officiating.
