One arrest, eight warnings fill police department's time
Marion police had a normal, busy week during the period Sept. 22-28.
Sept. 22 — An officer checked on a suspicious vehicle at a business. Everything was OK. A welfare check was conducted at a residence. An officer checked on a reported door-to-door salesman in the business district.
Sept. 23 — A warning for a defective headlight was issued. An officer was dispatched to a structure fire at U.S.-56 and Sunrise. An officer met with a person in regard to a possible vehicle burglary.
Sept. 24 — A warning was issued for speeding and having a defective headlight. An officer checked on a barking-dog complaint in the 300 block of North Cedar. A water leak was discovered at Highland and Freeborn. City crews were advised of the situation.
Thursday — Officers worked on an out-of-state theft investigation. A wild-animal complaint at Marion Elementary School was answered, but the animal was not found.
Friday — An officer asked several motorists to move their vehicles so that the road could be blocked off for Old Settlers' Day. Two curfew warnings were issued. An officer took a theft report.
Saturday — Officers were out on duty for the Old Settlers' Day Parade. A theft from a business was investigated. Two warnings for speeding were issued. An officer was called to the 400 block of East Forrest for a reported domestic disturbance. A male was arrested for domestic battery.
Sunday — An officer checked on a report that people were riding four-wheelers in the south valley flood area. A warning was issued for failure to use headlights when required.
Marion police drove a total of 441 miles during the week, according to the report compiled by Chief Michel Soyez. Eight warning citations were issued and one person was arrested.
