Open letter to Florence officials

Open letter to Mayor Lehman and members of the Florence City Council:

I, Tim Parmley, hereby tender my resignation as council member of the City of Florence.

I feel that I am unable to faithfully serve the citizens of the City of Florence because the Mayor and other members of the council continually exclude me from discussions, keep vital information from me, talk among themselves, excluding me from the discussions and decisions and falsely accuse me of contacting the media and other individuals.

Discussions and decisions among council members are purposely held in secret and not discussed in open public session, and I was left in the dark, not knowing what was discussed or decided.

A recent interview with a prospective appointee to the position of City Attorney was held in secret, without my knowledge, or the knowledge of the public.

I was told by members of this council that they were not trying to force me to leave the council, yet when I was elected to become the Fire Chief, the council was all ready with a replacement.

I also feel that if I continue to serve on the Fire Department, as the Fire Chief or as a fireman, that the council will take it's vengeance by denying the Fire Department equipment and funds. I therefore am also resigning from the Fire Department.

This council has gotten what they wanted. You've won. I will no longer be a voice of dissent.

I would like to thank the citizens of Florence for this opportunity to serve them and for their support.

This letter of resignation is effective at the conclusion of this council meeting.
