Ozark Mountain Daredevils to perform

Ozark Mountain Daredevils will perform as the featured act June 7 at Chingawassa Days. The performance will begin at 9 p.m.

Gene Winkler, 2003 chairman of Chingawassa Days steering committee, said, "This band has a broad appeal because of its rock and country background." The three-day festival is June 6-8 at Marion's Central Park.

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils formed in 1971 and have toured extensively in all 50 states and throughout Europe and Scandinavia. Known for their hits, "If You Wanna Get To Heaven," which went gold, and "Jackie Blue," a song that went number one worldwide and established the group, not only as competent musicians, but more than competent songwriters, the band mixes Southern rock with a bluesy country for a sound that is ageless. Other popular songs include "Walkin' Down the Road," "Country Girl," and "You Made It Right."

As the current line-up enters its 10th year, it features three original members: Steve Cash, harmonica and vocals; Michael "Supe" Granda, bass and vocals; and John Dillon, guitar, fiddle, and vocals. Bill Brown, guitar, and Ron Gemp, drums, round out the versatile band.

The popular Wichita band, Synergy, will open for the Daredevils. This band was featured as the Friday night entertainment at last year's Chingawassa Days.

The three-day festival will feature chain saw artists, bed races, food court, dunking booth, cow chip bingo, gunfighters, fast draw demonstrations, anvil shoot, and the River City Spinners Yo-Yo Club from Wichita.

Fun Time Amusements will provide rides and attractions in the park for children of all ages.

Traditional activities will return to the festival, including the Marion National Bank barbecue, St. Luke Hospital ice cream social, karaoke contest, Friday night dance featuring the Soul Preachers, Marion Kiwanis pancake feed, students from Vicky's School of Dance, mule rides, boot race and money in the hay contest, Alex Stuchlik Polka Band, pedal tractor pull, Central National Bank watermelon feed and bingo, miniature horse demonstration, chain saw art auction, and the Sunday worship service.
