Paul Darrin

Paul F. Darrin, 85, died Dec. 30, 2003, at the Lutheran Care Home, Herington.

Born Aug. 3, 1918, at Norwich, he was the son of Hubert G. and Cynthia M. (Stephens) Darrin.

He was a 1938 graduate of Herington High School. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea as a sergeant with the military police, signal corps. He received a Bronze Service Star.

After his military service he received his bachelor of science degree in agricultural science from Kansas State University in 1955.

He was a veterinarian's assistant, assisting Dr. William Elliott Sr., DVM., from 1963 to 1985.

He was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church and served on numerous boards, the Walk to Emmaus, and sang in the church choir. He also was a member of the American Legion Post #12 of Herington for more than 50 years and served as adjutant. He was a past president and member of the Herington Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde Darrin; a sister, Dorothy Harrison; and his parents.

Survivors include a sister, Nellie Brunner of Herington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Herington United Methodist Church with the Rev. Edward Thompson officiating.

Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington, with full military honors.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
