Paul Scharenberg

Paul E. Scharenberg, 88, former resident of the Wonsevu community, died Feb. 8, 2003, at Cottonwood Falls.

Born Nov. 24, 1914, at Wonsevu, he was the son of Louis and Maude (Shanklin) Scharenberg.

On June 3, 1939, he married Velma Yoaken at El Dorado.

A retired farmer/rancher in the Pleasant Valley area, he owned and operated the Burns Lumberyard. In 1977 he moved to Bella Vista, Ark., and operated Scharenberg Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning until 1997.

He was a member of the Wonsevu church and a former member of Bella Vista Christian Church. Other memberships included Zeredatha Masonic Lodge #80 and Falls Chapter #25 Order of Eastern Star. He was a member of Farm Bureau, school board of former Pleasant Valley School, a 30-year member of board of supervisors of Chase County Conservation, the Burns Co-Op, and Bella Vista Square Dance Club.

Survivors include his wife, Velma; a son, Lyle Scharenberg of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Diane Griffin of Burns; sister, Grace Hazen of Belleville, Ohio; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wonsevu Christian Church with Pastor Clint Stoppel officiating. A Masonic graveside service will be conducted by Zeredatha Lodge at Homestead Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Wonsevu Christian Church or Zeredatha Lodge.
