Pay increase approved

Staff reporter

Marion County Commission had a light agenda Friday with payroll and accounts payable occupying most of the time.

The commission approved a $50 per month pay increase for Suzanne Robinson of the county attorney's office.

County attorney Susan Robson requested and received a 10-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel.

Following the session, the meeting reconvened and the commission approved the pay increase as a result of a discrepancy in pay to similar county positions.

The commission also approved county clerk Carol Maggard continuing to update employee job descriptions and classifications with the League of Kansas Municipalities.

When position descriptions and classifications are adjusted, Robinson's pay increase may be decreased to be in line with other positions.

In other business:

— Area fuel bids for road and bridge department were approved. Cardie Oil Company of Tampa received two bids and Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro received two bids.

Cardie Oil Company's low bid was $1.574 for a total of 2,950 gallons of diesel fuel. Cooperative Grain and Supply's low bids were $1.5763 for 1,800 gallons and $1.5863 for 1,800 gallons of diesel fuel.

— The commission approved payroll and accounts payable in the amount of $688,606.

— The August sales tax distribution was $44,710, about the same as 2003 which was $44,759 for the same month. The county is $51,730 ahead for the year in sales tax revenue compared with 2003.

— Maggard reported $6,294 remained in encumbered funds. These funds were carry-overs from last year to pay for budget items this year. Of that amount, $754 was emergency management department and the remainder was for the appraiser's department.

— Jamie Shirley has been hired part-time in the ambulance department, Maggard announced.

— The commission reviewed a certification of completion from Kansas Department of Commerce for the county's microloan program.

According to a letter from the department of commerce, semi-annual reports are required. Maggard said SCKEDD (South Central Kansas Economic Development District) as administrator of the grant would probably take care of the reports. She would check to make sure.

The commission did not meet Monday but will meet at 9 a.m. Friday to canvass the general election.
