PBHS FFA Chapter Envirothon team takes state, heads to nationals
Peabody-Burns FFA Chapter competed in state Envirothon April 10 at Webster Conference Center in Salina. The local students took first place, earning a trip to national competition July 23-29 in Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada.
The Kansas Envirothon is an outdoor environmental high school competition. Students learn and are tested on soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics, and a current issue entitled "Water stewardship in a changing climate."
Students from Peabody-Burns High School who participated in the competition were Derek Benson, Ben Jantzen, Duane Unruh, Jason Unruh, and Ryan Wiebe. Their sponsor is Sonya Roberts.
The team placed first in forestry, wildlife, and aquatics. They took second in current issues and third in soils. They were selected first overall.
Marion County Conservation District sponsored the county contest and Kansas Association of Conservation Districts was a state level sponsor.
