Pilsen: Bishop honored with reception

Bishop Thomas Olmstead visited Holy Family Parish this weekend. A reception was hosted in his honor Saturday evening by St. Mark's Altar Society of Marion at the Marion Activity Center. St. Patrick's Altar Society in Florence served breakfast for the Bishop Sunday morning and St. Anne's Altar Society honored him Sunday noon with a covered dish dinner.
Lt. Anthony and Sara Hanson of Fayetteville, N.C., were houseguests of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Vinduska from Thursday until Sunday. Terry and the Hansons were Friday afternoon visitors of Lou and Ruby Vinduska.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Silhan drove to Wichita Sunday — nothing special, just to get out and relax.
Greg and Darla Meysing and family visited Paul and Alice Meysing Sunday evening.
Karen Konarik and Stanley Konarik attended Colton Guhr's fifth year birthday party in Goessel Saturday.
Heather Holub, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Holub, has been home on medical leave since Dec. 12. She reported back to duty Tuesday. She spent Monday with her grandmother, Ruby Holub. Ruby was a Sunday supper guest of the Dan Holub family.
Vickie Phannistiel, Katie and Gabrielle of Omaha, Neb., were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Holub and family. The Phannistiels are very special friends of the Holubs. The men served together in the Navy.
Dr. Paul, Catrina, Elise, Adelle, Olivia, and Eli James Loney were my weekend guests.
George and Genevieve Steiner of Wichita, Kenny Vinduska, and Margie and Arthur Stroda called on Amelia Vinduska during the week. Amelia and Magdalen Dvorak played Bingo with St. Luke Living Center residents Friday. En route home they visited with Maxine Svitak.
Dale Vogel spent Friday and Saturday with his grandparents, Dr. Eugene and Verna Vinduska. Gene, Angie, Michael, and Mark Vinduska enjoyed Sunday brunch with the Vinduskas.
Mr. and Mrs. Florian Silhan visited Magdalen Dvorak Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Silhan visited Maxine Svitak on Monday. Sylvia Bezdek, Millie Vinduska, and Ida, Dylan, Ashleigh, and Shelby Svitak visited with Maxine during the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Terry Vinduska, Mr. and Mrs. Monty Stuchlik, and Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Stuchlik enjoyed supper together at Al's Café in Lost springs Saturday evening.
Kevin, Teresa, Heath, and Cassidy Hill met Bill and Mary Hill and Nellie in McPherson last Sunday and enjoyed dinner together. Nellie had been visiting her grandparents since Christmas Day. Teresa met her mother, Hazel Clothier, in Marion Monday. They went on to Moundridge on business, and then on to Newton.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ehlers of Newton visited Dennis and Mary Steiner on Sunday.
The John Goentzel family was on their way to attend the 4-H meeting in Marion when I called them Monday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa visited with Theo Kroupa at Marion Manor on Sunday and Monday.
Agnes Bina is now a resident at St. Luke Living Center.
LaVada Holub attended the Pilsen Community Center board meeting Friday evening. LaVada was a Sunday dinner guest of the McGlachlin family in Newton.
The Pilsen Community Center board is sponsoring a dinner on Jan. 19 at the Center. The menu consists of roast beef or ham, potatoes and gravy, green beans and corn, coffee and tea, and ice cream. Adults, $6, children eight and under, $3. They will be serving from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. William Kroupa and sons, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kroupa and family, and Sharon Kuhn of Wichita were Saturday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa. The William Kroupas left Saturday evening for their home in Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Vinduska and Mark were Sunday dinner guests of Millie and Lillie Vinduska. They were celebrating Joe's birthday. Cake and ice cream were served later in the afternoon. Robert McGee, who is a student at KU, visited Millie Monday. Millie said he "got her computer straightened out" for which she was very thankful.
Family and friends attended the wedding of Frederick Silhan and Staci Thurston Saturday evening at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. A reception followed in the church parlor.
Dora Holub accompanied Ruby Holub to Newton Monday.
Randy Svitak attended the funeral for Mary Stika on Monday. Randy and Kathy attended the New Year's dance at Renegades in Lincolnville. This was the last dance and night that Shane Svitak and Greg Holub were owners of Renegades. Kathy Svitak and Paulette Holub visited Thursday afternoon.
Shane Svitak, Jennifer Schmidt, Damien Svitak, and Jenni Stevens attended the wedding of Fred Silhan and Staci Thurston Saturday. Shane and Damien were ushers.
The Makovec family gathered Dec. 29 for their Christmas at the Hilltop Activity Center. Those attending included Jane Makovec, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Makovec and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Makovec and family, Mr. and Mrs. Allen Makovec and family of Newton, Jandi Makovec, and Gary Steiner.
The Gail Makovec family attended the basketball game at Centre Friday. Shaina is one of the cheerleaders and Marrisa worked in the concession stand. Simon Makovec did guard duty in Salina Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Gail and Simon Makovec drove to Dodge City Monday to observe the internship program for mechanical engineering, an internship between K-State of Salina and Excel of Dodge City.
