Pilsen community well represented at area events

Daniel Goentzel presented a project talk at Marion County Club Day in Hillsboro Saturday and received a red. Daniel and Elizabeth participated in the skit given by the club. It received a blue.

Sylvia Bezdek and Lucille Bernhardt attended the lasagna dinner sponsored by the CYO in Hope last Sunday. Sylvia attended the soup dinner Sunday sponsored by the Lincolnville Community Building Fund.

Jim, Rosalie, Wendy, and Tracy Rudolph and Terry Steiner Jr. participated in the bowling tournament in Marion this weekend.

Amelia Vinduska and Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Margaret Jirak to Mass Monday morning in Marion. Later they visited residents at Marion Manor. Magdalen and Amelia led crafts at St. Luke Living Center Monday afternoon.

Ken Vinduska took his mother, Amelia Vinduska, to Marion Tuesday on business and to Hillsboro Wednesday on business.

Emma Klenda and Bud and Rose Vinduska called on Amelia Vinduska during the week. Amelia accompanied Vernie and Gene Konecny to Mass in Tampa Sunday.

Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Vinduska were among those who attended the mural and portrait dedication Wednesday in Fort Riley in memory of Chaplain Kapaun.

Patsy Waner accompanied Paul and Alice Meysing to Fort Riley Wednesday to attend the mural and portrait dedication. Archbishop Edwin F. O'Brien, for the Military Services, USA, officiated in the blessing of the mural and was the honored speaker. The dedication was followed by a reception in the chapel fellowship hall. Later, Paul, Alice, and Patsy, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Arlen Freund of St. Mark, enjoyed lunch in Fort Riley personnel dining hall. George and Patsy met Herman and Rita Strafuss of Manhattan for Sunday dinner at Brigette's Country Diner in Woodbine. Herman and Rita then spent the afternoon at the Waner home. George and Patsy attended funeral services for Kathryn Schimpf Thole Monday morning at the Strassburg Baptist Church. The Waners spent last weekend in Shawnee, Okla., visiting Dr. David and Mary Kay Holland, Matt and Katie.

Holy Family CYO participated in the Region II volleyball tournament Sunday at the Halstead High School. The team included Jared Kirkpatrick, Neil Waner, Andrew Gayle, Brian Klenda, Kevin Waner, Laura Klenda, Amanda Kleiber, Raschelle Jirak, Allison Cady, Kristen Mueller, Shaina Makovec, and Andrea Kleiber. Adults attending included Terry and Cindy Vinduska, Janice Waner, Lynn Kleiber, Julie Klenda, and Gail and Marissa Makovec.

LaVada Holub attended the Pilsen Community Center board meeting Tuesday evening. Plans were finalized for the center to sponsor a "roof repair" benefit roast beef dinner at the center on March 17.

Damien Svitak and Jenni Stevens of Manhattan were weekend houseguests at the Randy Svitak home. The Randy Svitak family, Bob and Irene Finley of Herington, Ralph, Donna, and Chris Finley of Woodbine, and Joe, Melissa, and Kathy Finley of San Diego, Calif., enjoyed dinner at Al's Café in Lost Springs Saturday evening to wish the Joe Finleys a "bon voyage."

Magdalen Dvorak spent Tuesday and Wednesday in Newton at the home of Tom and Janelle Dvorak caring for her great-grandson, Kristian Dvorak. Magdalen accompanied Don and Karen Druse to Salina Sunday. Magdalen and I had supper together at The Big Scoop after Mass in Marion.

Nellie Hill attended the Lincolnville Wide-Awake 4-H Club meeting last Sunday at the home of Ruth Ann Carlson. Teresa Hill and Nellie made a business trip to Salina Thursday. Teresa and Cassidy had dinner Friday noon with Hazel Clothier at Town and Country Café, after which they went out to the farm. Nellie took part in Marion County Club Days at Hillsboro Middle School. She gave a reading and an illustrated talk. She placed with two regional blues. The Kevin Hill family joined other Cedar Point Community Church members for skating Sunday at the bowling alley in Peabody.

Ann Malone of Wichita visited with Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Vinduska on Saturday. Amy Vogel of Marion visited them Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meysing were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Dorman Becker at Butch's Diner in Tampa.

Darla and Kaylee Kasper and Kevin Searle of Newton were Saturday afternoon visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sklenar. The Sklenars were Saturday evening dinner guests of Glenn and Dodie Phinney. Carole Sklenar attended the Pilsen Community Center board meeting Tuesday evening. She led the Lenten discussion group Wednesday evening which met in the Pilsen rectory. The Lloyd Sklenars and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sklenar enjoyed breakfast together Sunday at Town and Country Café in Florence.

Irene Novak, Wilma Cloutier, and Mary Lou Kroupa had lunch together in Hillsboro Wednesday.

Clint Kroupa spent Sunday afternoon with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik of Wichita drove to Halstead Sunday where they attended the CYO Region III volleyball tournament. After the tournament, they joined Terry and Cindy Vinduska for lunch in Halstead.

Terry Vinduska attended a Pioneer Seed meeting in Newton Thursday.

The Gail Makovec family attended the basketball regionals at St. Xavier's High School Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. They attended the CYO volleyball tournament Sunday in Halstead.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak drove to Wichita Sunday to attend the baptism of their grandson, Luke Frasher, at Blessed Sacrament Church. The Frashers hosted a luncheon in their home after the baptism.

Ida, Ashleigh, Dylan, and Chelsie Svitak, Margaret Vinduska, Irma Benda, Alice Meysing, and Emma Klenda visited with Maxine Svitak during the week. Terry Silhan was a Friday dinner guest of Maxine.

Meggan Daniel of Wichita and Fred Silhan of Salina were weekend guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Terry Silhan. Meggan visited with her grandmothers, Maxine Svitak and Ella Winter, on Sunday. Meggan and Kathy attended an aroma therapy class in Wichita Saturday.

Todd Svitak and sons were Sunday dinner guests of George and Charlene Svitak.

Dr. Jessica and John Laurin and children were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tajchman and Jenna. Jenna Tajchman was been "house bound" the past week due to knee surgery.

Vernie Konecny and I made a trip to Hillsboro Saturday morning.

Greg Spachek of Wichita spent Saturday with his father, John Spachek. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Spachek and family visited John Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Konecny drove to Hutchinson Sunday where they attended the production, "Wizard of Oz," presented by the Family Children's Theater at memorial Hall. Monica Morgan was the orchestra director and Kevin Morgan was a member of the orchestra.

Staci Thurston was a Friday evening supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Silhan and their houseguests, Fred Silhan and Meggan Daniel.

Kathy Silhan and Meggan Daniel visited at the home of Kim (Spachek) Rost on Saturday. They went especially to see the new arrival, Benjamin. Additional guests were Cindy and Stacy Spachek. Meggan and Kathy visited with Todd and Shawna Winter and baby, Grace, in Marion Sunday afternoon.

Pat and Dean Bina visited with Harry Nelson Tuesday afternoon then visited Agnes Bina at Marion Manor. Pat and Dean drove to Wichita Sunday.

Alice and Paul Meysing visited with the Dorman Beckers Sunday afternoon.
