Pilsen: Family puts finishing touches on Oborny home

Jennifer, Rick, Kori, Clayton, and Jesse Marshall of Blackwater, Mo., and Jeannie, Steve, Kati, and Toby Blue of Salina came Saturday morning and stayed until Sunday evening. The group was putting the "finishing touches" on the George Oborny home. David and Sam Oborny and children also were there Saturday and Sunday "pitching in." Val, Julie, Laura, and Jackie were helpers on Sunday as were Alfonse and Phillip Klenda of Hutchinson. Kathleen sounded a bit tired when I talked to her this evening, however she said this "renovating" has a lot of pleasant memories. They all had their meals together and I am sure everyone helped Kathleen feed the crew! Hillary Blue wanted to come and help, but had "too much homework."

Ed and Gemma Davies visited Millie Vinduska Friday afternoon. Michelle Molner was Millie's Monday luncheon and afternoon visitor. Michelle had spent some time in Oklahoma visiting with friends. She will be returning to Seattle, Wash.

Sylvia Bezdek visited Marcia and Dan Falen Sunday afternoon.

Rita Greenhoe of Roseville, Calif., and Mark Noone of Sebastopol, Calif., arrived in Wichita Wednesday afternoon. Their brother Ralph Noone of Valley Center picked them up at the airport in Wichita and their sister Ruth Sloyer of Derby brought them to the Richard Noone home. Rita returned home Saturday evening and Mark will be staying until Thursday helping his parents with some odd and end jobs.

Dr. and Mrs. Eugene Vinduska were Thursday evening supper guests of the Dr. Jerry Vinduska family. The meal was followed by a birthday party honoring Vince on his seventh birthday. The Eugene Vinduskas attended the football game in Herington Friday evening vs. Marion. Their grandson, Dale Vogel, is a member of the Marion team.

The monthly Harvest House meeting was held in Pilsen Friday morning. Among those attending were Alice Meysing, Vernie and Gene Konecny, Magdalen Dvorak, Amelia Vinduska, Margaret Jirak, Charlene and George Svitak, Emma Klenda, Evelyn Grogan, Ruby Holub, and Irma Reznicek.

Father Steve Gronert, Father Jim O'Neal, and Father Eric Albertson were Sunday dinner guests of Paul Meysing at Kingfisher's Inn. Father Jim and Father Eric are military chaplains at Fort Leavenworth and were here especially because of their interest in the life of Father Kapaun and to visit the memorial in Pilsen. Father Jim and Father Eric were con-celebrants at the 10:30 a.m. Mass in Pilsen.

LaVada Holub drove to Newton Saturday evening and was a guest at Amanda Pontious' bridal shower. After the shower the group went to the Ron McGlachlin residence where a bachelorette party was held. LaVada was an overnight guest at the McGlachlin home. LaVada visited at the Tom Holub residence Sunday evening.

Weekend guests of Edmund and Mary Lou Kroupa included Sharon and Kris Kuhn of Wichita, Stacy, Jodi, Ashley, and Aaron Smith of Overland Park, William, Linda, Clark, and Raleigh Kroupa of Fort Worth, Texas, Theresa, Mark, Zach, Kaylnn, and Anna Jirak of Atchison and Marty, Kimbra, Clint, and Kayla Kroupa. Mary Lou and Linda visited Irene Novak Monday morning at the care home in Hillsboro.

Kathy Svitak visited her mother, Irene Finley, in Herington on Thursday. Randy, Kathy, and Ed Svitak were Friday supper guests at the home of Alan Dunham in Hutchinson. The group had gone together to Ruidoso, N.M., and they exchanged pictures of their trip. Damien Svitak of Manhattan came home Friday to help with combining over the weekend. Sunday afternoon and supper guests of Randy and Kathy included George and Charlene Svitak, Damien Svitak and Jenni Stevens of Manhattan, Shane Svitak and Jennifer Schmidt, and Marion Bina of Newton.

Vernie and Gene Konecny picked up Dee Lucas at Augusta Monday afternoon and they attended the rosary for Marie Konecny at St. Joseph Church in Conway Springs. They attended the funeral Mass on Tuesday.

Magdalen Dvorak attended the Sunflower Senior Citizens meeting and luncheon in Tampa Tuesday. They toured the Tampa ambulance and fire station. Magdalen accompanied Don, Karen, Melanie, Matthew, and Kara Druse to Newton Saturday where they spent the day helping Dave and Marie Smith with their addition to their home. Additional helpers included Tom and Margaret Niles of El Reno, Okla., and Kim and Hannah Teesdale of Marion. Don, Karen, Melanie, Matthew and Kara, Magdalen, Kim, and Hannah returned to the Smith home Sunday with their helping hands.

Evelyn Grogan of Winfield came Thursday and stayed until Monday afternoon visiting with her aunt, Emma Klenda.

Judy and Kevin Steinborn and daughters visited Joe and JoAnn Novak after Mass Sunday. Friday overnight and Saturday guests of the Nowaks were Jakob and Jorge Hanschu of Hillsboro.

Margie Stroda took her mother, Amelia Vinduska, to Lincolnville Monday. Millie Vinduska, Doctor Eugene Vinduska, Margie Stroda, Emily Staatz, and Margaret Jirak visited Amelia Vinduska during the week. Amelia and Vickie Melcher accompanied Ken and Bonnie Vinduska to Harper Sunday where they attended Mass at St. Patrick's Church and also witnessed the baptism of Elijah Edward Dold, son of Dan and Joan Dold. A dinner was enjoyed by the group at the Dold home after the ceremony. The group also celebrated Katie Dold's sixth birthday.

Margaret and Ed Vinduska were guests of Don and Carolyn Meerian of Overbrook on Sunday. Additional guests were Darlene, Dick, and Cecelia Nancarrow of Overland Park and Matthew Meerian of Chanute. The group was celebrating Margaret's and Carolyn's birthdays.

Terry and Kathy Silhan and Bill Schimpf Jr. visited Maxine Svitak during the week.

Pat and Dean Bina drove to Emporia Sunday. They attended a movie and ate out before returning home.

The Hill family attended Cassidy's soccer game in Hope Tuesday evening. Heath and Cassidy had soccer games in Herington Thursday and Nellie Hill had a volleyball game in Hope. Cassidy helped with the coronation of Centre's homecoming king and queen Friday evening. Nellie played in the band. Heath, along with other members of the Centre soccer team, played a game in Newton Saturday afternoon. Teresa took Nellie to the home of Justine Jennings Saturday and she was an overnight guest. The girls attended a school dance for seventh and eighth graders at Centre High School Saturday evening. The Hill family picked up Nellie at the Jennings home Sunday and they attended 4-H Sunday at the Burdick United Methodist Church and the 4-H meeting afterward.

The Gail Makovec family attended the Tampa Triple T's Halloween party in Tampa Monday. They attended the volleyball game at Centre Tuesday and the football game and homecoming at Centre Friday evening.

Herman and Audrey Kukuk of Perry, Okla., were houseguests of the Gail Makovec family from Friday evening to Monday morning. They came especially to attend Simon's "welcome home" party. Simon worked with the National Guard at Newton Sunday to help assemble toys for the Toys for Tots Run. He said it was awesome to see how involved and dedicated the bike riders are and how they decorate their bikes for the run.

Robert and Karen Konarik and Stanley Konarik drove to Wichita Tuesday and picked up Karen's mother LaDonna Kirkendall. She will be spending several weeks with the Konariks. Robert, Karen, LaDonna, and Stanley Konarik drove to Manhattan Sunday and spent the day visiting Marie Konarik. Karen and LaDonna drove to Wichita Friday evening and attended the Chonda Pierce performance at the Coliseum.

The John Goentzel family attended the Happy Hustlers 4-H Fall get-together and meeting Sunday evening at the Chuck McLinden home.

Wendy Rudolph attended homecoming at Centre Friday evening. Jim, Rosalie, and Wendy drove to Salina Sunday and spent the day celebrating Wendy's birthday.

Lou and Ruby Vinduska, Terry and Cindy Vinduska, Ron, Tami, Kristi, and Staci Vinduska of Topeka, and Jill Vinduska and Armando Terrin of Manhattan enjoyed dinner together Sunday at the Rockin' V Restaurant in Herington. They were celebrating Lou and Ruby's 56th wedding anniversary which was Oct. 15 and Ruby's birthday. They enjoyed cake and ice cream after dinner at Lou and Ruby's home.

Darla and Kaylee Kasper, Kevin Searl, and Anne Scott were supper and evening visitors at the Lloyd Sklenar home Friday. Larry Burkholder was a guest of Lloyd and Carole Sklenar Saturday afternoon and evening. Larry brought a "nice bunch" of fish and they enjoyed a fish fry together. Carole and Lloyd Sklenar made a business trip to Wichita Sunday afternoon. On the way home they stopped in Newton and visited Russell, Yvonne, Arika, and Chelsie Schroeder.

George and Patsy Waner returned Wednesday afternoon after spending several days visiting Leo, Julie, Rachel, Alex, and Nicole Waner in Waunakee, Wis. Patsy and George visited Rose Gleason on Sunday at the Andover assisted living complex. They also visited with the Steve Buckendahl family in Benton.

Last, but not least, I had some pretty important visitors this weekend from the great university. Nathan and Rachel Cooper came Saturday morning and stayed until Sunday afternoon with me. A delightful weekend to say the least. Rachel is a senior at KU and Nathan is a freshman. The visit reminded me of the Loney bunch and their college days. However, with them it also included several loads of laundry.
