Pilsen: Leona spends weekend in Lawrence

I drove to Lawrence Saturday afternoon to visit at the home of Dr. Paul, Catrina, Elise, Adelle, Olivia, and Eli Loney. Additional guests were Dr. Linda Loney, Dr. Thomas Cooper, and Rachel and Nathan Cooper. Linda and Tom brought Nathan to Lawrence and helped him move into Scholarship Hall. Nathan is a freshman and Rachel is a senior at the great University. I returned home Sunday evening.
Father Steve Gronert baptized Maggie Mae Vinduska, daughter of Dr. Gerald and Heather Vinduska, on Sunday in St. John Nep. Church in Pilsen. Maggie Mae's sponsors were Gene and Angie Vinduska.
Herman and Rita Strafuss of Manhattan and George and Patsy Waner enjoyed Sunday dinner together at the Brookville Café in Abilene. They were celebrating Rita's and Patsy's birthdays. George and Patsy drove to Benton in the late afternoon and visited with Steve, Ann, and Claire Buckendahl. The Waners were supper guests of the Buckendahls.
John Spachek returned home Sunday evening after spending several days in Eureka with Ron and Barbara Myers.
George and Patsy Waner visited Gene and Vernie Konecny Friday evening. Jeff and Karla Leckliter and children were Sunday afternoon guests of the Konecnys. Vernie accompanied Susan Wallace to Newton Saturday. She accompanied me to Newton Thursday afternoon.
Emil Dvorak, daughter Jessica, and Jessica's friend Josh of Indianola, Iowa, spent the weekend with Magdalen Dvorak. Magdalen and her houseguests met Karen and Melanie Druse and John and Carol Dvorak at the Pizza Hut Friday evening for supper. Saturday supper guests of Magdalen and her houseguests were Don, Karen, Melanie, and Kara Druse. Evening guests included Dave, Sue, and David Dvorak of Andover and Milton and Verda Fleming of Herington.
Sunday dinner guests of Magdalen and her houseguests were Don, Karen, Melanie, Matthew, and Kara Druse, Tom and Janel Dvorak of Newton, Dave, Sue, and David Dvorak of Andover, Mike and Carleen Dvorak of Emporia, John and Marlene Clayton and Joseph Vinduska of Ellinwood, Maggie Vinduska of Emporia, Dave, Marie, David, Cory, and Quinton Smith and Jodie Demass of Newton, and Jennifer and Kristain of Wichita.
Terry and Cindy Vinduska attended the Marion school district cook-out Tuesday evening at Central Park. This was held to "start up" the new school year. Terry helped with the Farmers Union Ethanol Promotion in Salina Saturday. Terry and Cindy visited with Jill Vinduska in Manhattan Sunday.
Sunday afternoon visitors at the Joe Nowak home included Judy and Kevin Steinborn, Sonja and Kristen of Marion, Jackie and Averie Gengler of Salina, Jan, Jakob, and Jorge Hanschu of Hillsboro, and Tim, Jennifer, Eli, Allie, and Luke Frasher of Wichita.
Please remember Maxine Svitak in your prayers. Maxine underwent hip surgery Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital in Marion.
Amelia Vinduska accompanied Margie Stroda to Lincolnville Monday. Calling on Amelia during the week were Ken and Bonnie Vinduska, Margie and Arthur Stroda, Adam Collett, Millie Vinduska, Emily Staatz and Gerry Vinduska. Amelia visited the Collett family on Saturday. Margie and Arthur Stroda visited her on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Helmut Wituk drove to Wichita a week ago Saturday to help Braden Wituk celebrate his fourth birthday. Braden is the son of Jason and Krista Wituk.
Jeff and Karen Thompson and their daughter Alexandria of Ozawkie were weekend guests of Dr. Eugene and Verna Vinduska.
LaVada Holub spent Sunday afternoon visiting at the Ron McGlachlin home in Newton.
Meggan Daniel of Wichita spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents, Terry and Kathy Silhan. Staci Thurston was a Saturday supper guest of the Silhans and their houseguest. Meggan, Kathy, and Staci called on Ella Winter in Marion Saturday afternoon.
Pat and Dean Bina visited Thursday afternoon with Agnes Bina at Marion Manor. They also called on Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nelson. Jennifer Silhan visited Pat this Monday afternoon.
Congratulations to Robert and Karen Konarik who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a Mass offered Saturday evening by Father Louis Mattas at St. John Nep. Church in Pilsen. A dinner, reception, and dance followed in the Pilsen Community Center.
LaDonna Kirkendall, Karen Konarik's mother of Cloverdale, Ohio, and Karen's aunt Donelda Prowant of Continental, Ohio, came Friday evening especially to attend the anniversary celebration. Velda Good and children of Cloverdale, Ohio, came Thursday and Susan Johnston of North Creek, Ohio, and Sarah Hermiller of Ottawa, Ohio, came Friday evening.
George and Kathleen Oborny visited the Val Klenda family Sunday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak will be attending funeral services tomorrow, Tuesday, for Douglas Lamoureaux at the Ryan Funeral Home in Salina. Joe and Doug served together in the Korean War.
Darla and Kaylee Kasper, Kevin Searl, and Darla's friend Annie, all of Newton, were Friday evening supper guests of the Lloyd Sklenars. Carole attended a Butler County Community College meeting Monday evening.
Weekend guests at the Edmund Kroupa home included Sharon and Kris Kuhn of Wichita, Joni, Stacy, Amy, Abby, Ashley, and Aaron Smith of Overland Park, Teresa, Mark, Zachary, Kaylynn, and Anna Jirak of Atchison, William, Linda, Clark, and Raleigh Kroupa, and Martin, Kimbra, Clint, and Kayla Kroupa.
The excitement at the Kevin Hill home was that Cassidy started school. This leaves Teresa home alone. It will grow on you, Teresa. The Hill family attended the Cedar Point community family swim party Sunday evening at the Florence pool.
Irene Tajchman drove to Great Bend and attended Polka Days Saturday and Sunday. The Julie Lee Band played for the Polka Mass.
Randy and Kathy Svitak drove to Manhattan Saturday evening and had dinner with their son Damien, Jenni Stevens, and John and Connie Stevens of Ashland.
Ed Svitak and son Dylan were Sunday evening supper guests of Randy and Kathy Svitak. Shane Svitak and Jennifer Schmidt were Monday supper guests of Kathy and Randy.
The Gail Makovec family left Wednesday for Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma where they saw Simon graduate on Thursday from boot camp with the Army National Guard. Simon will now take six weeks advanced training as a forward observer, remaining in Lawton. The Makovecs returned home late Sunday evening.
Bernard and Pauline Meysing visited Paul and Alice Meysing Sunday afternoon.
Amanda and Erin Steward were houseguests of the Jimmy Rudolph family from Friday night to Sunday evening. Tracy and Kaylynn Rudolph and family were Sunday afternoon guests.
Wendy Rudolph attended the slow-pitch tournament in Hutchinson Saturday and Sunday. Scott Steward played on the team.
In last week's news I forgot to mention that Scott Steward and Ben Dalke were members of the slow-pitch team.
