Pilsen: Loney named to state soccer team

My granddaughter, Kaitlin Loney, has been chosen for the 2002 Kansas State Select Soccer team. Kaitlin will compete in July at a regional camp at Northern Illinois University for an opportunity to be selected for the Regional Select team. Kaitlin is the daughter of Pat and Lori Loney of Wichita. Charles and Rosalie Schmidtberger of Marion are her maternal grandparents.
Sunday evening was "Happy Birthday" time at the home of Edmund Steiner. Those present to help him celebrate his 86th birthday were Dennis and Mary Steiner, Terry Allan, Christina, and Miranda Steiner of Marion, Terry and Deanna Steiner, and Vickie Smolik. The group enjoyed supper and an evening of visiting.
Several stockholders attended the Pilsen Community Center annual meeting Friday evening. Plans were finalized for the fund raiser to be held Sunday.
Darla and Kaylee Kasper and Kevin Searle and Yvonne, Erika, and Chelsie Schroeder, all of Newton, were Sunday afternoon visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sklenar and Dustin Stevens.
Irene Tajchman attended the retreat held Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Wichita.
Mr. and Mrs. Lou Vinduska, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Horinek, and Irene Tajchman were among those attending the American Legion birthday dinner Sunday evening at Butch's Diner in Tampa.
LaVada Holub attended the Tri-County Telephone annual stockholders' meeting Tuesday evening in Herington. LaVada attended the annual stockholders' meeting Friday evening at the Pilsen Community Center.
Claire Buckendahl of Benton is on spring break from pre-kindergarten and is spending from Saturday until Tuesday with her grandparents, George and Patsy Waner.
Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Karen Druse to Newton Tuesday and they attended a Chisholm School concert. Magdalen's great-grandson, Davey Smith, participated in the chorus. Magdalen attended the Marion County Senior Citizen's board meeting and luncheon Friday at the Tampa Senior Center.
Emil and Connie Dvorak of Indianola, Iowa, came Saturday and will be spending a few days as houseguests of Magdalen Dvorak. A Sunday dinner was enjoyed at Magdalen's home. Others present included Tom and Janel Dvorak and Marie, Davey, Cory, and Quinton Smith and their friends Jody and Chris of Newton, Jennifer and Kristian Dvorak of Wichita, Karen, Don, Kara, and Matthew Druse and John and Carol Dvorak of Marion, Dave, Sue, and David Dvorak of Andover, John and Marlene Clayton of Ellinwood, and Maggie Vinduska of Emporia.
Emil, Connie, and Magdalen Dvorak drove to Abilene on business today, Monday.
Sylvia Bezdek called on me Sunday afternoon. Sylvia and Lucille Bernhardt attended the annual Tri-Co. Telephone meeting in Herington Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Greg Spachek and family of Wichita visited John Spachek Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Rudolph and Wendy and Debbie Steward attended the state bowling tournament in Hutchinson Saturday and Sunday.
Brandon, Kaylee, and Nicole McCaffrey of Topeka are spending part of their spring break with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Silhan. They came Friday and will be staying until Tuesday evening. Their parents are enjoying skiing in Keystone.
Sympathy is extended to the family of Agnes Pecinovsky who died Sunday. Services were held Wednesday morning at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Marion.
Nellie Hill accompanied Ruth Ann Carlson to the South Cottonwood 4-H meeting Monday evening at the senior center in Hillsboro. Lincolnville Wide-Awake 4-H Club was evaluating South Cottonwood's 4-H meeting.
Teresa and Cassidy Hill and Hazel Clothier attended the Wonsevu Ladies' Aid Easter luncheon on Tuesday. The Kevin Hill family enjoyed Sunday dinner, supper, and the evening with Hazel. Hazel visited at the Hill home on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak visited with Jackie and Paul Gengler in Salina Monday. Averie Gengler returned home with the Nowaks and will be spending a couple of days with them.
Mr. and Mrs. George Svitak, Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer, Tony and Pat Love, Todd Svitak, Terry, Trent, and Taylor Svitak and Terry's friend Stephanie met at the Pizza Hut Sunday where they celebrated the birthdays of Terry, Trent, and Taylor. After pizza, the group enjoyed an ice cream birthday cake.
Fred Silhan of Salina and Meggan and Geoff Daniel of Wichita were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Silhan. Staci Thurston of Emporia and Frank Svitak joined the Silhans Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Ella Winter joined them for Sunday dinner. Meggan, Geoff, Fred, and Staci visited Mr. and Mrs. Todd Winter and Grace Sunday afternoon.
Fred Silhan, Staci Thurston, and Meggan and Geoff Daniel visited Maxine Svitak on Saturday. Irma Benda and Gary, Becky, and Katie Evans called on Maxine during the week.
Nicholas Meysing, son of Larry and Tammi Meysing of Oklahoma City, spent a couple of days last week with his grandparents, Paul and Alice Meysing. Nicholas was on spring break. Nicholas also spent some time with his other grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorman Becker. Larry and Tammi were weekend guests of Paul, Alice, and Don. Paul and Alice visited Bernard and Pauline Meysing Sunday evening.
Amelia Vinduska accompanied Ken Vinduska to McPherson Monday. Magdalen Dvorak and Amelia led crafts at St. Luke Living Center Tuesday afternoon. Margie Stroda and Amelia Vinduska attended Mass at Marion Manor Wednesday and visited with some of the residents. Amelia accompanied John Spachek to Tampa Sunday to attend Mass. Joan, Katie and Jeremy Dold visited Amelia during the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Blue and children spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Oborny. Kati, Hillary, and Tobey will be staying until Thursday with their grandparents, George and Kathleen Oborny.
Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bina attended the corned beef and cabbage dinner at Strong City Sunday noon. Later they drove to Emporia, took in a movie, and ate out before returning home. The Binas visited me Tuesday evening.
