Pilsen: Meysings attend K of C initiation

Paul and Alice Meysing were in Wichita Saturday afternoon and evening attending a Knights of Columbus fourth degree initiation held in the St. Francis of Assisi complex. Paul was one of 66 candidates to receive the honor of Fourth Degree. Alice attended a program held for candidates' wives and lady friends while the men were receiving their degree. After the ceremony, the women joined their men and all attended the 5 p.m. Mass in the church. Mass was followed by a banquet and a program at the parish hall.
Clarence and Joan Stroda of Navarre and Ed and Gemma Davies of Marion visited Millie and Lillie Vinduska Sunday afternoon.
George and Genevieve Steiner of Wichita visited John Spachek Sunday morning. They attended Mass together, then attended the Catholic Workmen breakfast in the church dining room.
Margaret Vinduska attended the Tampa Legion Auxiliary meeting Monday night.
Ken and Bonnie Vinduska, Bud Vinduska, Terry Klenda, Andy and Amy Taylor of Cheney, Kathy Silhan, John and Frances Ice and Kathy Lawrence of Emporia called on Amelia Vinduska during the week. Margie and Arthur Stroda were Tuesday evening supper guests. Magdalen Dvorak and Amelia entertained the residents of St. Luke Living Center Friday afternoon with Bingo. Marilyn Teague and Jane Schreck of Wichita and Jeanette Treanary of Houston, Texas, visited Smelia Vinduska Sunday afternoon. The girls were en route to Wichita after spending the weekend with friends in Lawrence.
Dr. Jerry and Heather Vinduska and family were Sunday dinner and afternoon visitors of Dr. Eugene and Verna Vinduska.
Charlene Svitak spent Monday visiting her sister Claudine Krch in Lincolnville.
Don and Karen Druse treated with a supper at Al's Café in Lost Springs Friday evening.
Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Don, Karen, Melanie, Matthew and Kara Druse and Mitchell Neuwirth to Derby Saturday where they were guests of Kevin and Brandon Ulmer. Additional guests were David and Marie Smith and family and Marie's friends Jodi and Mike Smith, all of Newton. The group was celebrating Marie's birthday.
Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Ed and Betty Riedy of Hope to Gypsum Sunday where they attended the open house and reception honoring Everett and Lillie Vernon on their 65th wedding anniversary. Later in the afternoon, the Riedys and Magdalen went on to Salina. They had supper there before returning home.
Barbara Tajchman drove to Wichita Sunday to bring back some of our Holy Family CYO'ers who had attended the diocesan convention over the weekend. Joe, Barbara, and Jenna attended the South Central District FFA Banquet Monday at Centre. Jenna was secretary for the district this past year. Maria Jirak served as president.
Pat and Dean Bina attended a movie in Newton Sunday and ate supper before returning home.
Joe Nowak was able to return home Friday evening after undergoing surgery Thursday morning in Wichita. Jerry Nowak visited with his parents Friday evening. Judy and Kevin Steinborn and daughters visited Joe and JoAnn after Mass Sunday.
The Gail Makovec family attended the Tampa Triple T's 4-H meeting last Monday evening. The family attended the track meet in Remington on Tuesday. Shaina participates in shot put, javelin, and discus. They attended the track meet in Marion Friday evening.
Marissa Makovec attended an after-prom meeting Wednesday evening at the Lincolnville 4-H Building. Shaina had play practice followed by a FFA meeting Thursday evening. Simon attended National Guard weekend in Junction City. Gail, Marissa and Sheila drove to Salina Saturday to visit K-State where Simon will be attending college this coming school year. Simon is enrolled in the College of Mechanical Engineering.
Randy and Kathy Svitak attended the "multi-birthdays" party held Saturday evening in the Pilsen Community Center.
LaVada Holub attended the VFW steak supper in Marion Sunday evening. She also attended the "multi-birthdays" party Saturday evening.
Patsy Waner attended the Neo-Century Club meeting held April 1 in the Marion Christian Church. Herman and Rita Strafuss of Manhattan visited with George and Patsy Thursday afternoon.
Irene Tajchman attended the biscuit and sausage breakfast fund raiser for the soccer team on Saturday at the Legion hall in Hope. She spent the rest of the day visiting with Emma and Dale Davidson and sons.
Teresa and Nellie Hill were in Salina on business Tuesday. Teresa, Nellie, and Cassidy visited Sunday at the home of Richard and Delores Mann where the group celebrated Gladys Mann's birthday. Gladys is Teresa's aunt. Teresa, Cassidy, and Hazel Clothier were in Newton Monday.
I missed Teresa Hill's news last week: Hazel Clothier was an Easter Sunday dinner guest of the Kevin Hill family. An Easter egg hunt was enjoyed in the afternoon. Cassidy had kindergarten screening on Tuesday and Teresa attended a site council meeting at Centre Elementary.
Wendell, Monica, Sara and Kevin Morgan were Friday evening guests of Vernie and Eugene Konecny. The Morgans drove to Topeka Friday night. Sara was an entrant in the State Spelling Bee. En route home Sunday evening, the Morgans were supper guests of the Konecnys.
Joni, Staci, Aaron, and Ashley Smith of Overland Park were Friday visitors of Ed and Mary Lou Kroupa. Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kroupa and family were additional supper guests Friday evening.
Darla Kasper and Kevin Searle were Saturday afternoon visitors of Lloyd and Carole Sklenar. Jeremy Sklenar, Ashlyn and Tyler and Parrise Labbof of Elkhart were Saturday overnight and all day Sunday guests of the Sklenars.
Holy Family Parish CYO'ers attending the Diocesan Convention in Wichita this weekend included Meggan Whitaker, Alison Cady, Shaina Makovec, Sarah Davidson, Andrea Kleiber, Sara Hamm, Sarah Prieb, Amanda Kleiber, Cecilia Rziha, Raschelle Jirak, Kristin Mueller, Jenna Tajchman, Becca Kukuk, Alisa Hernandez, Maria Jirak, Jerod Kirkpatrick, Neil Waner, Andrew Gayle, Brian Klenda, James Bina, Derek Belton, and Brian Bina. Adults as sponsors attending were Cathy Whitaker, Francis and Mary Jirak, and Cindy and Terry Vinduska. Several awards were received. Jenna Tajchman was Holy Family Parish's Outstanding Catholic Youth and also Outstanding Catholic Youth from Region II. Maria Jirak was the parish nominee for Light of Christ Award and also from Region II. Maria also received the President's Award — a Diocesan award given rarely (the last one was given 10 years ago). This award recognizes the award winner for his or her exceptional commitment to CYO. Brian Klenda received the Holy Family Parish CYO Outstanding Catholic Youth (male). Sarah Davidson was elected Diocesan vice president Andrea Kleiber was elected as Region II representative to the Diocesan board. Cecilia Rziha and Amanda Kleiber were chosen to represent Holy Family CYO on the Region II board. The Holy family Parish CYO received the Parish Recognition Award and the On Fire With Faith Award.
I enjoyed having a Mexican dessert with Holy Family Parish quilters Monday afternoon.
