Pilsen: Stanley Konarik celebrates 95th birthday years ago

Robert and Karen Konarik hosted a dinner Sunday in honor of the 95th birthday of Stanley Konarik. Guests included Marie Konarik of Manhattan, Al, Steve, Jim, and Doug Konarik of Oklahoma City, Okla., Helen Soukup of Abilene, Martha Melcher of Tampa, Gary, Dores, and Bernice Chaput, Mark Smith, and John and Mary Griffith.

Weekend guests at the home of Richard and Loretta Noone included Jeff and Rita Greenhoe of Roseville, Calif., Mark Noone of Sebastopol, Calif., Mark and Ruth Sloyer of Derby, and Jeff, Beth, Drew, and Paige Sloyer of Salina.

St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary Unit III held a meeting and luncheon Tuesday at Butch's Diner. Members present included Amelia Vinduska, Lucille Bernhardt, Margaret Jirak, and Magdalen Dvorak.

Amelia Vinduska accompanied Margie Stroda to Hillsboro Tuesday. Ken and Bud Vinduska, Sarah Horinek, and Dylan and Ashley Svitak called on Amelia during the week. Her visitors on Sunday were Maurice, Margie, and Arthur Stroda, Danielle Steele, and Vernie Konecny.

Marie Konarik spent Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Konarik.

Caleb Makovec, son of Allen and Raelene Makovec of Newton, is a member of the Newton Community Children's Choir. They participated Saturday in a "Musical Carousel" in the Santa Fe High School at Edmond, Okla. The group took first place in overall competition.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Vinduska and Anton visited Vernie and Gene Konecny Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sklenar drove to Wichita Monday on business. Dustin Stevens and Lloyd were in Wichita Tuesday and Wednesday on business. Carole spent Wednesday at Butler County in Marion getting their computers "up and running." Carole drove to Newton Friday to care for Arika and Chelsie Schroeder and to help Russell Schroeder with some chores. Lloyd and Dustin helped with the Lions Club Car Show in Marion Saturday. Kevin Searl, Darla and Kaylee Kasper, Yvonne, Arika, and Chelsie Schroeder of Newton and Danille and Brandon Bringhurst of Tampa were guests at the Sklenar home. The group was celebrating Kaylee's seventh birthday.

The big event in Pilsen this weekend was the open house held in our newly-redecorated church. Over 225 visitors signed the guest book. We appreciate all of you who came to share the beauty of our church. St. Ann's Altar Society served refreshments. We want all of you to feel welcome at any time. Thanks to everyone who helped with the tour and to the ladies for their help with the refreshments.

Edmund and Mary Lou Kroupa visited with Theo Kroupa Sunday afternoon at Marion Manor.

Joe and Barbara Tajchman attended Mass in St. Phillip's Church in Hope Sunday morning where Dwight Davidson, son of Dale and Emma Davidson, made his first communion. A breakfast followed in the parish hall. A family picnic was held later in the afternoon at the Davidson home. Joe, Barbara, and Jenna attended the Centre FFA chapter banquet Tuesday evening at Centre High School.

Irene Tajchman attended the Polkafest at the Cotillion in Wichita on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon.

Irene Tajchman attended the first communion of Dwight Davidson Sunday morning at St. Phillip's Church in Hope and the breakfast that followed.

Charlene Svitak visited her mother, Lillian Krch, in El Dorado. George and Charlene had dinner with their granddaughter, Amber Svitak, in Manhattan Saturday. The Svitaks had dinner in McPherson Monday. They were celebrating Charlene's birthday.

Nellie and Teresa Hill attended the 4-H Council meeting on Monday at the Marion City Building. Heath Hill had a soccer game in Hope Tuesday. Teresa and Cassidy attended. The Kevin Hill family attended the K-6 spring program at Centre High School Friday evening. Nellie and Heath participated. Teresa, Nellie, and Cassidy attended the Marion and Hillsboro city-wide garage sales on Saturday.

George and Patsy Waner spent the weekend in Shawnee, Okla., as houseguests of Dr. David, Mary Kay, Matthew, and Katie Holland. Leo Waner and daughter Rachel flew in on Friday and spent the weekend. The group attended Matthew Holland's confirmation Saturday evening. Leo was Matthew's sponsor. On their return from Oklahoma, George and Patsy enjoyed lunch Monday noon with their daughter, Ann Buckendahl in Wichita.

Holy Family Parish CYO enjoyed a party Wednesday evening in Central Park, Marion. Election of officers was held. Brian Bina was elected president; James Bina, vice president; Derek Belton, treasurer; Cecilia Rziha, secretary; Laura Klenda and Raschelle Jirak, athletic chairmen; Amanda Kleiber, communication chairman; and Tyler Stubenhofer, spiritual chairman.

George and Kathleen Oborny attended the Centre Elementary Spring program Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Lou Vinduska visited Mr. and Mrs. Delvin Lewis in Newton Friday afternoon. Delvin and Lou were POWs in Germany during World War II.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Wesley of Salina, Anna Aultum of Minneapolis, Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik of Wichita, Terry and Cindy Vinduska, and Lou and Ruby Vinduska enjoyed Sunday dinner at Kingfisher's Inn. After dinner, they all returned to the Vinduska home for dessert and visiting. Leona Kleiber and Adeline Bernhardt were additional afternoon visitors.

Melvin and Mary Beth Wesley were among those who enjoyed a tour of the Pilsen church on Sunday.

Shaina Makovec was among those attending the CYO party in Marion Wednesday evening. Shaina had play practice at Centre Thursday and Saturday evenings. Marissa Makovec attended Shaina's track meet in Clay Center on Monday.

Daniel and Melissa Stuchlik of Wichita were Saturday evening and overnight guests of Terry and Cindy Vinduska.

Sylvia Bezdek accompanied Dan and Marcia Fallen to Wichita Saturday where they attended the Polkatennial at the Cotillion.

Paul and Alice Meysing returned home Monday afternoon from Hays where they attended the annual Knights of Columbus convention on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. The Sunday Mass was held at the Cathedral of the Plains in Victoria and the banquet and convention dinner were held in the auditorium of the Victoria High School.

Dennis and Mary Steiner attended the Polkatennial Saturday at the Cotillion in Wichita.
