Pilsen: Svitak's marathon expedition ends before midnight

Kathy Svitak and Irene Finley made their annual marathon Christmas shopping expedition Tuesday. They got home early this year. It was before midnight instead of 1 a.m. as it was last year. Kathy visited Paulette Holub Friday afternoon and evening. She helped Kathy cook.

Gemma Davies visited Millie and Lillie Vinduska Saturday afternoon.

Sylvia Bezdek attended the Herington Knights of Columbus coffee and doughnuts breakfast Sunday after Mass.

A layette shower was held for Kelly Krch Sunday afternoon at the home of Anita Svoboda in Lincolnville. Hostesses included Anita Svoboda, Jennifer Silhan, Kathy Svitak, Gail Burns, and Cathy Holub. Guests attending included Deb Gillett of Marion, Sandra Svoboda of Ramona, Charlene Svitak of Pilsen, Delores Svoboda and Kristen Ebaben of Lincolnville, and Kelly's mother, Gail Streeter.

Sylvia Bezdek attended the graveside service held Thursday afternoon at the Pilsen Cemetery for Lawrence Tajchman.

Margaret Vinduska attended the VFW Auxiliary Christmas party on Tuesday at the VFW Hall in Marion.

Amelia Vinduska and Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Margaret Jirak to Mass in Marion Monday morning.

Millie Vinduska, Margie Stroda, Emily Staatz, and Ken Vinduska called on Amelia Vinduska during the week. Margie and Arthur Stroda visited Amelia after Mass Sunday.

Paul and Alice Meysing, Magdalen Dvorak, Amelia Vinduska, and Sister Alice attended Harvest House Friday in Florence.

Magdalen Dvorak, Leona Loney, Irma Benda, Clara Bredemeier and her daughter Laura Jane, who is visiting from Colorado, called on Maxine Svitak during the week.

Pat Bina visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Nelson, on Tuesday. Pat and Dean were supper guests of Jeff, Terri, Brendon, and Justin Bina at the Marion Pizza Hut. They were celebrating Brendon's fourth birthday. The Dean Binas attended the flea market Sunday at the Coliseum in Wichita, then enjoyed dinner in Newton before returning home

Terry and Cindy Vinduska attended the wedding of Kim Tiffany and Brian Green on Saturday at the St. Lawrence Church on the KU Campus. They spent the night in Lawrence and on Sunday visited Jill in Manhattan and had lunch with her.

Terry Vinduska left Monday for Washington, D.C., where he is attending a U.S. Grains Council meeting. He will return home Wednesday.

Joe and JoAnn Nowak drove to Wichita Monday.

Terry and Kathy Silhan attended the Marion County Homecare Christmas party at Kingfisher's Inn Friday evening. Kathy, Barbara Hanschu, and Nancy Riggin drove to Newton Saturday to view the nativity display at Heights United Methodist Church. There were over 400 displays of nativity scenes

Edmund Kroupa visited Theo Kroupa at Marion Manor Sunday afternoon. Kayla Kroupa spent Monday afternoon with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa. Clinton arrived after school.

Claire Buckendahl of Benton spent from Wednesday until Sunday evening as a houseguest of her grandparents, George and Patsy Waner. They had dinner together Sunday at Butch's Diner. Anne was on a business trip to Seattle, Wash., and Steve had other commitments. Claire returned home with her mother Sunday afternoon.

Terry and Kathy Silhan and Meggan and Geoff Daniel of Wichita attended the Winter family Christmas gathering Sunday at the Peabody Senior Center.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Silhan drove to Emporia Sunday. They enjoyed eating out and visiting with friends.

Jenna Tajchman, a student at Kansas State, spent from Friday until Monday visiting her parents, Joe and Barbara Tajchman. Joe, Barbara, and Jenna attended a family pre-Christmas dinner Sunday hosted by Jim and Terri Schmidt and family in their home in Newton.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Lawrence Tajchman whose graveside service was held in Pilsen Thursday afternoon and also to the family of Ed Urbanek whose funeral Mass was offered Tuesday morning at St. John Nep. Church in Pilsen.

Vernie Konecny and I made a trip to Salina Sunday afternoon. Vernie and Gene went to Hutchinson and Wichita on Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sklenar attended the Lions' Club Christmas party Thursday evening at the Stone City Café. Darla Kasper and Kevin Searl visited the Sklenars Saturday afternoon.

The Gail Makovec family attended Shaina's Centre High School winter concert Monday evening. A pre-season basketball tournament was held in Herington this past week. Shaina is a cheerleader, so that is where she spent Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday evenings. Gail attended the games Saturday evening. Shaina had play practice Wednesday evening in Tampa. The Parish Religion Class will be presenting this play Sunday evening at their Christmas party. Shaina attended the CYO volleyball practice Sunday afternoon at the Pilsen Community Center.

Magdalen Dvorak attended the Sunflower Senior Citizens Christmas dinner at Butch's Diner in Tampa. After a short meeting, Bingo and snacks were enjoyed.

Amelia Vinduska and Magdalen Dvorak played Bingo with St. Luke Living Center residents on Friday.

Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Don, Karen, Melanie, Matthew, and Kara Druse and Mitchell Neuwirth to El Reno, Okla., this past weekend and were guests of Tom and Margaret Niles. They all attended Wyatt Kappus' first birthday party Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak made a business trip to Wichita Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. George Oborny were guests of Mr. and Mrs. David Oborny and family at The Big Scoop Monday night. They were celebrating Gregory's fourth birthday.

Robert and Karen Konarik took Karen's mother, LaDonna Kirkendall to the Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita Tuesday so she could return to her home in Cloverdale, Ohio.
