Pilsen welcomes Adam Collett family

Mr. and Mrs. Adam Collett and family have moved to Pilsen. Welcome to these young folks. They purchased the home formerly occupied by the late Sylvia Moravec.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nowak left Wednesday for Castle Rock, Wis., and returned today, Monday. They went especially to attend a family reunion on Saturday.

Margaret Vinduska, JoAnn Nowak, and Ruby Vinduska were among those who attended the American Legion Auxiliary meeting in Tampa this evening, Monday. A salad supper was enjoyed by the women and their guests, Natasha Steinborn and Kristen Mueller, who attended Girls State this summer.

Terry and Kathy Silhan, Fred Silhan, Staci Thurston, and Meggan and Geoff Daniel attended the wedding of Kelly Riggin and O.J. Pear Saturday at the Manhattan United Methodist Church. They also attended the reception, dinner, and dance that was held at the Houston Street Ballroom.

Joe, Tish, and Mark Vinduska were Sunday dinner guests of Millie and Lillie Vinduska. Clarence and Joan Stroda of Navarre visited Millie and Lillie in the evening.

Hazel Clothier visited at the Kevin Hill home Tuesday afternoon. Teresa Hill took her open class entries to the Marion County Fair Wednesday and Nellie entered her 4-H entries.

Bill and Mary Hill of Great Bend attended the Marion County Fair Thursday afternoon. They came especially to see Nellie in the style revue. Nellie received a red on her sewing and a blue on style revue.

The Kevin Hill family attended the Business Men's Appreciation Picnic Friday evening. Nellie worked at the 4-H concession stand. Teresa, Nellie, and Cassidy visited Hazel Clothier on Sunday.

Heath Hill participated in the Marion Junior Golf Tournament today, Monday. He took second in his class. Nellie Hill attended the Lincolnville Wide-Awake 4-H meeting Monday night.

Dora Mae Holub treated her sister Ruby Holub to dinner last Monday at the Chinese restaurant in Hillsboro. They were celebrating Ruby's birthday. Ruby was a guest Friday for a birthday dinner at the Dan Holub home. Ruby's guests on Saturday were Tim Holub and girls of Cheney, Frank and Vera Holub of Halstead, and Dan, Ron, and Mollie Holub. The group celebrated Ruby's birthday. Ruby was delighted that her family remembered her on her birthday.

Marcel and Mary Jane (Stuchlik) Steiner of Wichita celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last weekend. Gene and Anna Marie (Tajchman) Miller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, also in Wichita, and Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Alex Stuchlik celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary here in Pilsen. The day started at noon with a Polka Mass at St. John Nep. Church with music furnished by Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen.

Ed and Mary Lou Kroupa have been visiting Irene Nowak on a regular basis. Irene is a patient in the Hillsboro hospital.

Magdalen Dvorak accompanied Karen, Melanie, and Kara Druse and Mitchell Neuwirth to the Demolition Derby Saturday evening at the Marion County Fair.

Marcel and Barbara Tajchman of McPherson visited with Magdalen Dvorak Sunday afternoon.

Emma Klenda, Magdalen Dvorak, Amelia Vinduska, John Spachek, Paul and Alice Meysing, Vernie and Gene Konecny, Charlene and George Svitak and Sister Alice Klenda were among those attending the Harvest House meeting Friday at the Marion activity center.

In visiting with Marlene Goentzel, she said most of their week was spent attending the Marion County Fair making 4-H entries and working at the concession stand.

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Miller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner, dance, and reception at the Moose Club in Wichita. Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen furnished the music. Many friends and family attended the festivities. Among those whose names were given yours truly were George and Kathleen Oborny, Joe, Barbara, and Jenna Tajchman, Patricia and Dale Smith of Marion, Lester and Ruth Tajchman of Lincolnville, Dr. Jessica and John Laurin and family of Marion, Mildred Holub of Manhattan, Irene Tajchman, Emma and Dale Davidson of Hope, and Paul and Mary Jane Tajchman of Marion.

Gene and Anna Marie Miller renewed their vows at 11 a.m. Sunday morning at St. Vincent Church in Andover. A dinner for the immediate family and friends followed at the home of Mickey and Susan Ferris in Andover.

Margaret and Ed Vinduska drove to the home of Carolyn and Don Meerian in Overbrook Sunday. From there Don, Melinda, and Mike Meerian, Ed and Margaret drove to the home of Dick, Darlene and Cecilia Nancarrow in Overland Park and spent the afternoon.

George and Genevieve Steiner of Wichita visited with John Spachek Sunday.

Jimmy, Rosalie, and Wendy Rudolph attended the slo-pitch tournament in Florence Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Members of the Lincolnville team include Tracy Rudolph, Mike Stika, Jason Stika, Dan Rudolph, Eddie Svitak, Brian Klenda, Tom Vinduska, Nolan Brunner, Kevin Barton, and Kelly Steiner. After the tournament, Jimmy and Rosalie stopped at the Pizza Hut for lunch.

Shaina Makovec attended Internet camp at Rock Springs ranch from Sunday until Wednesday. Marissa said the rest of the week was spent in Marion County Fair activities. Marissa attended in-service training today, Monday, at Centre High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Steiner celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary with a trip to Las Vegas on the Fourth of July weekend and the week following. They were joined by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ehlers, Edmund Steiner, and Vickie Smolik. They also visited at the home of Jim and Marlene Gutsch, who reside in Las Vegas.

Dean and Pat Bina spent Sunday in Wichita. Last weekend they visited with Gene Malir in Wilson.

George and Patsy Waner attended the rosary service for Dores Chaput last week at St. John Nep. Church in Pilsen. Patsy spent Wednesday in Wichita with Ann and Claire Buckendahl of Benton. They enjoyed having lunch "On the Border." George and Patsy attended the buffet, reception, and dance honoring Gene and Anna Marie Miller of Andover's 50th wedding anniversary. The event was held at the Moose Club in Wichita. Herman and Rita Strafuss of Manhattan were Sunday morning guests of George and Patsy. The two couples then attended the 40th wedding anniversary of Alex and Jean Stuchlik including the Polka Mass, dinner, reception, and dance. The Waners were Monday luncheon guests of Leona Loney at the Pizza Hut.

Holy Family CYO participated in the softball tournament held in Goddard this past weekend. They did not place however they did receive the Sportsmanship Award, one of the highest awards given by CYO. This will be a traveling trophy given by Andy and Claudia Green, who have been involved in CYO for a great number of years. The trophy was given in memory of Andy who died recently. Players included Brian Klenda, Brian Bina, Jeremy Kristek, Joseph Stroda, Aaron Barney, Neil Waner, Jackie Klenda, Laura Klenda, Alison Cady, Alisha Barney, Sarah Davidson, Kristen Mueller, Cecilia Rziha, and Dana Depo, a foreign exchange student making her home with the Rziha family for the school year. Adults attending included Laverne and Harriet Bina, Julie Klenda, Gene Barney, Anna Kristek, David and Tena Waner, and Terry and Cindy Vinduska.

Marie Konarik of Manhattan was a weekend guest of her parents, Robert and Karen Konarik.

Jeff Bina and sons were my Sunday evening visitors.

Darla and Kaylee Kasper and Kevin Searl of Newton came Saturday noon and brought a horse to the Lloyd Sklenar home. Darla and Kevin returned to Newton Saturday afternoon. Carole Sklenar and Kaylee went to Newton and visited Russell, Yvonne, Erika, and Chelsie Schroeder. Erika and Chelsie returned home with Carole and spent the weekend. Carole took them home Monday afternoon. Lloyd Sklenar visited me Monday afternoon.

Margie and Arthur Storda, George and Genevieve Steiner of Wichita, and Millie and Lillie Vinduska called on Amelia Vinduska last Sunday. Monday visitors of Amelia were Carole Finan and her sisters Janet of California and Eileen of Abilene.

Margaret Sullivan of Augusta, who attended Harvest House in Marion Friday, returned home with Amelia Vinduska and was her overnight guest. Alex and Jean Stuchlik called on them Saturday morning. Marietta and Amelia visited Margaret Jirak Saturday afternoon.

George and Genevieve Steiner and Paul and Ursula Metsker of Wichita visited Amelia Vinduska on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tajchman and Jenna attended the festivities on Saturday and Sunday honoring Gene and Anna Marie Miller. Edwin, Peggy, and Margie Tajchman and Ron and Nancy Tajchman of Garland, Texas, were Sunday supper guests of the Joe Tajchmans.

LaVada Holub drove to Newton Sunday evening and visited at the Ron McGlachlin home. Justin Pontious returned home with her for a few days. LaVada will take him home on Thursday.

Sylvia Holub attended the funeral of Roy Schump Saturday morning at the Catholic church in Herington.

Melissa Stuchlik visited her grandparents, Lou and Ruby Vinduska, Saturday morning.

Fred Silhan and Staci Thurston visited Maxine Svitak Monday morning. Irma Benda called on Maxine during the week.

JoEllen, Katie, William, and Emily Whitehair of Wichita spent Saturday visiting at the home of Dr. Eugene and Verna Vinduska. Amy Vogel was a Sunday morning caller and Gene Vinduska visited Sunday afternoon.

Terry, Cindy, and Jill Vinduska left July 27 for San Francisco, Calif., where Terry attended the U.S. Grain Council meeting. They were met there July 31 by Sara Hanson and Melissa and Daniel Stuchlik. They visited many interesting places, among them the Golden Gate Bridge, the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate State Park with its museums, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Chinatown, Old Italy, a cable car museum, Muir Woods, and also were able to take a mini tour of the city. They returned home Aug. 4.

Terry and Cindy Vinduska hosted a group of Russian feed millers, who were in the U.S. for the U.S. Grain Council meeting. They toured the Vinduska farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meysing attended the wedding anniversary dance and reception honoring Gene and Anna Marie Miller Saturday evening in Wichita.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Konarik attended the Dores Chaput funeral last week. Robert was a eucharistic minister and Marie was lector.

Kathy Silhan helped with the Michelle Combs and Anthony Conrad wedding Aug. 3 and attended the dance in the evening.

The biennial S. Ben Finley family reunion was held this weekend at the Randy and Kathy (Finley) Svitak home. Guests began arrived Friday evening. They included Denzell Mary (Finley) Ekey and Jessie Finley, Topeka; Dennis and Helen Finley, Wichita; Jack, Rebecca, Elaina, Michael, and Julianna Finley, Columbia, Mo.; Jim and Marc Finley and Nikki, Blunt, S.D.; Bob and Irene Finley, Herington; Blake and Mary (Finley) McIntyre, Osage City; Dan, Anna, Nathaniel, and Ethan McIntyre, Burlingame; Damien Svitak and Jenni Stevens, Manhattan; Shane Svitak and Jennifer Schmidt, Pilsen. Joyce, Garrett, and Gavin (Finley) Baker of Derby arrived Saturday. Additional guests Saturday afternoon, evening, and Sunday, were George and Charlene Svitak, Pilsen; Paulette Holub, Lincolnville/Hesston; and Terry and Linda Schmidt, Marion. At the Saturday afternoon meeting, it was decided to have the reunion at the Randy and Kathy Svitak home again in two years.
