Planning meeting held for Florence Labor Day

The first planning meeting for the 66th annual Florence Labor Day celebration was held Sunday afternoon at the Florence Ambulance Building.

One new event will be added this year. It will be a Pinebox Derby for children and adults to be held Sunday afternoon. Duane McCarty and Del Leeds will be in charge and will be working on details.

The committee will be looking at bids for a new public address system to be used during Labor Day and other outdoor events on Main Street.

Also on Sunday's agenda was election of officers. Those elected were: Traycee Warner, chairman; Janette Parmley, co-chairman; Mary Jane Grimmett, secretary; and Vicki Turner, treasurer.

It also was announced that the Spring Fling on April 6 will be a one day event this year. Funds raised from the event will be used to help fund the Labor Day celebration.

Those in attendance at the Spring Fling will be given the opportunity to vote on entries for the button design contest. A decision on this year's theme for the contest will be made March 2 at the next planning session. This session also will be held in the ambulance building.

Committee members encourage all individuals to attend and will welcome anyone with new ideas or who are willing to work at the planned events for Labor Day. Meeting time is 4 p.m.
