Play by the rules

Several readers have asked about last week's editorial "We're not the bad guys" and wondered where it was directed.

It wasn't a specific person or group of people — it merely was an observation about the attitude of the community.

One reader went so far as to write a letter berating the editor for bashing people and having a negative attitude. If you're wondering why the letter isn't in these pages it's because the writer didn't have the courage to sign his own name.

It's not that he didn't sign it — it's that he made the grievous error of using the name of a well-known businessman in the community.

That's where this week's mystery writer underestimated us. We called for verification. Needless to say, the businessman in question was a bit surprised to find out about the letter.

We welcome letters to the editor. We'll even print ones we don't agree with and those that criticize the way we do things. As long as they address a specific issue, are not libelous, and contain the writer's name, address, and phone number for verification purposes, we will print them.
