Police conduct random drug search at MHS

Marion Police Department conducted a random drug search Thursday at Marion High School in cooperation with school personnel. A K-9 unit was used in the search which did not result in any incidents.

March 6: Animal Health Center personnel received assistance in capturing and returning loose cattle at Freeborn and Main streets to the facility. A lost motorist received assistance. A warning was issued to a bicyclist for operating a bicycle without a helmet and headlight after dark.

Tuesday: Response was given to a report of juveniles fighting in the 200 block of North Cedar Street. A road obstruction was removed in the 1200 block of Denver Street.

Wednesday: Three warnings for speeding were issued on South Third Street. A semi driver was stopped on Eisenhower Drive but determined he was a local delivery driver. A lost motorist received assistance.

Thursday: Follow-up interviews were conducted for a battery case. An abandoned vehicle at Upland and 190th was checked. An open business door was reported; the store was checked, owner notified, and business secured. Two eight-year-olds were reported missing but the children returned home when an officer arrived.

Friday: An officer met with two business owners regarding parking concerns. Subjects met with an officer regarding the closing of an alley for an auction Saturday. A report of juveniles with cigarettes resulted in a meeting with their parents. A gas leak was reported in the 200 block of Garfield Street.

Saturday: A report was taken on a theft investigation. Response was given to parking issues in the 100 block of West Main Street. Subjects had illegally hooked up electrical services which resulted in a theft of services investigation. A report of juveniles throwing rocks at vehicles in the 900 block of Main Street resulted in an officer speaking with the juveniles. Suspicious subjects were reported near the courthouse but none were located.

Sunday: An officer met with a subject regarding a civil matter. An open vehicle was located in the 200 block of Locust Street; the owner was contacted, and everything was OK.

Officers drove 656 miles, and issued four warning citations.
