Police deal with variety of cases

Marion police handled a variety of cases and duties during the week of Aug. 4-10.

Aug. 4 — An officer attended training in Tampa. Three warnings for speeding were issued. A domestic battery complaint was investigated. The suspect was found in the evening and arrested.

Aug. 5 — An officer met with a person about a road-rage incident. A complaint about abandoned property was investigated.

Aug. 6 — An officer helped a citizen with questions about a child safety seat.

Thursday — Warnings were issued for driving with a defective taillight and making an improper U-turn. Officers interviewed a person in a case involving damage to books at the Marion and Hillsboro libraries. They also recovered several pieces of evidence during a search.

Friday — A hit-and-run accident was investigated. A warning for speeding was issued. An officer served as back-up for the Sheriff's Department during a confrontation in the Lehigh area.

An officer found a missing juvenile, who was returned to custody of parents. A warning was issued for an inoperable headlight.

Saturday — Two warnings for speeding and one for a defective taillight were issued. An officer assisted a sheriff's deputy with a person who was driving under the influence.

Two warning were issued for curfew violation and one for having no light on a bicycle after dark. Suspicious vehicles were checked on at Marion Country Club and Marion Cemetery. Everything was "OK" in both cases.

Sunday — An officer met with a person about a house watch. A person was conferred with about a junk vehicle. An officer met with a person about a nuisance ordinance violation.

An officer responded to a business alarm that had sounded. Everything was all right. The alarm had been set off by a storm in progress. Officers were on storm watch.

An officer helped a sheriff's deputy with back-up on a vehicle stop. Two warnings were issued for defective headlights.

Police Chief Michel Soyez reported Marion police drove 566 miles during the week. They issued 15 warning citations and made one arrest.

Mayor Eloise Mueller, at Monday's city commission meeting, said, "I'm glad to see you going after the junked vehicles. It's a pet peeve of mine."
