Police handle various matters, arrest two people

Marion police officers handled a variety of incidents, issues, and complaints during the week of Aug. 18-24.

Aug. 18 — An officer took a theft report. Several youngsters in the South Cedar Street area were warned about riding bicycles and skateboards in the street. An officer met with a citizen about unlicensed dogs.

Aug. 19 — An officer met with a citizen about a protection from abuse order. A report of a theft at a business was investigated.

Aug. 20 — A suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of North Freeborn was investigated.

Thursday — An officer registered a bicycle for a citizen. An abandoned vehicle was tagged. A complaint about a vehicle left on someone's property was investigated. An officer found some lost property.

Friday — An ambulance crew was assisted with a situation in front of Marion Pharmacy. An officer helped a citizen with a stalled vehicle at Main and Cedar streets. A warning was issued to a driver for driving without headlights on when required.

Several junk vehicle ordinance violations were investigated. An officer issued warnings for a defective taillight and illegal riding on a vehicle. A possible abuse situation was investigated. Citations were issued for an illegal U-turn and driving with a suspended license. An officer responded to a business alarm that sounded.

Saturday — An officer spoke to a person about a driving complaint. A person was arrested on a warrant. A warning for improper parking was issued. A dog complaint in the Lincoln/Nickerson area was answered.

An officer had an abandoned vehicle towed from the 100 block of North Fourth. A citizen with a vehicle that had broken down was assisted. An officer checked on a possible harassment situation at a local business.

Sunday — A report was taken about a stolen vehicle tag. An officer took a report of a theft in the 400 block of South Third Street. A vicious-dog complaint was investigated. An officer was sent to Ampride because of an argument there. A person was arrested for disorderly conduct and driving with a restricted license.

An officer investigated a utilities damage complaint to a cable television line. A warning was issued for a bicycle with no light. Five warnings were issued for speeding in an elementary school zone.

Police Chief Michel Soyez told city commissioners Monday Marion officers drove 735 miles during the week. Eleven warning citations were issued, along with three citations. Two people were arrested.
