Practice begins for fall musical

Practice for this year's Marion High School musical, "The Wizard of Oz," is in full swing.

Tryouts were held Sept. 2 in the MHS music room. Forty-five people tried out, making selection a difficult decision.

Chelsea Arnhold will play the part of Dorothy; Erin Fruechting will be Glenda, the good witch of the north; Megan Whitaker is slated as the wicked witch of the west; Joe Svitak is the lion; Justin Brookens is the scarecrow; and Tim Schuler will be the tin man.

Although some students didn't get the parts they wanted, many are happy with what they received. Senior Sarah Davidson said, "I'm happy with what I have. I am going to love being a tree! It's one of those parts you don't think about how awesome it is until you actually have it!"

Janet Killough will be the director and has overseen production for the past 10 years. What is her favorite musical? "Each year the one we are doing is my favorite!" she replied.

This musical will be particularly difficult. There are 27 scene changes and many special effects, as well as costumes for all actors.

Production dates are Nov. 14 and 15. Times will be announced later.
