Rain . . . the perfect gift

Rain! What a wonderful gift! And a drop in the temperature is welcome, too.

Jerry Buxton wrote an article for the Marion County Record a few weeks ago on the falls he has taken. That brought back to mind some of my experiences.

One Sunday, I was returning from church and just as I stepped up on my porch, I caught my toe on the edge of the porch and down I went, landing right on my nose. The bleeding was major. I just went to bed with a towel pressed to my injury.

Then there was a time we had just had a rain and the gutters downtown were oozy and slick with a thin skim of mud covering them. As I stepped out of my car, my feet slipped and I landed up on the pavement right in front of Duckwall's. I looked up into the sympathetic eyes of a gentleman citizen in dismay and embarrassment.

My most drastic tumble was in the Marion Presbyterian Church. It was the custom for the ladies of the church to do a real housecleaning once in a while. Elsie Reinke and I volunteered to clean the pulpit area. I was working vigorously, cleaning the pulpit, and stepped back to admire my work and landed about a foot below, right on my back. Elsie looked down and in a surprised voice said, "Why, Norma!"

My daughter Mary was here last week and we did errands. I usually save up a bunch to do when she comes. On a whim, I suggested we drive into Central Park to look at the spring. It was just beautiful. The shrubbery and grasses have gown up around it and makes is a secret place of beauty. The water lilies were just lovely, too.

We were near the museum, so went in there. Everything is so beautifully arranged. I could have stayed in either place the rest of the day.

Marion has these two wonderful places. We should visit them and spread the good news about the.

I have now viewed Mars!
