A beautiful spring day at last! A day to be treasured. It is hard to imagine the terrible storms in western Kansas, Texas, and other places. Joy and tragedy travel side by side.

A joyful occasion occurred when the Eagle Scout award went to Paul Hodson recently. Very impressive. The Scouts taking part were so dignified, and so competent in the ritual. Parents and others taking part must have devoted a lot of time in their training. Of course, Paul had put many hours into his accomplishment.

Do you remember when the Russian president, Boris Yeltsin, scared us and worried us about a war with Russia? The other day he died like everyone, peaceful and admired. He came to Kansas once to inspect our farming procedures.

I just viewed the movie, "Queen." The actress taking the lead was just great. Others playing the parts of Tony Blair, Prince Phillip, and Prince Charles were very good, too. I have always been a royalty watcher. I remember when Queen Elizabeth was just a young girl. Her uncle, Prince of Wales had been through a scandal with Mrs. Simpson, an American divorcee. He gave up his throne to his brother. The brother didn't live long and Princess Elizabeth was next in line. She has been the queen a long time. The British people wonder if Prince Charles, her son, will ever get to be king. He has had his problems, divorce from Princess Diana, her death in a car accident, and now he has married a commoner. He and Diana had two handsome sons. Who will the next ruler be? What a story!
