Random Thoughts
I just received two beautiful hanging baskets. They now hang from my back porch. Shades of lavender, pink, and green and gorgeous! Should I thank Mother's Day or my dear thoughtful daughter? I just don't think we appreciate our children enough. Mine are just priceless, all three of them. Then there are my dear grandchildren, greats and great-greats. I wouldn't trade a one of them off.
Well, the Queen of England is in the U.S. She came to help celebrate the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. This is where the first permanent settlement of England was made. In a talk she said, "IT is right that we continue to reassess the meaning of historical events in the changing context of the present."
I'm think in English history right now. I'm reading a book set in the 1500s. It is a story about the English royalty of those days. Believe me, the times were rough. If the king wanted to get rid of someone, he just chopped their heads off. The book is "The Boleyn Inheritance," by Philippa Gregory, published in 2006. I find it pretty interesting. People are a lot alike from century to century.
Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Phillip are on their way to the Kentucky Derby. I'll be watching, too. Two of my granddaughters will be there. I hope I can see them. I love to see the well-dressed women in their fancy hats.
I won't be having a mint julep. How about a nice, cold root beer?
