Friday was a wonderful day! My dear Texas friend (formerly of Marion), who is here with her family during Chingawassa Days, came to see me. We had lunch together. Lunch was good but the visit was better. How do you describe that? If Nadine wrote a book about her life it would be a bestseller. She has such an interesting family. Many of you know Bev Hoch, her daughter, and have heard her sing. She and her husband Mike both teach music in a college. They are joining a group in New York (friends there are involved) who are gathering musical instruments to send to African children. I know the African children can play the drum! Anyway, Bev and Mike are going to Africa soon to deliver the instruments.
I don't know all the details but I may be able later to report more information. Between Oprah and Bev they may turn Africa into a place where we all want to go!
I have just read a book, "Faith of the First Ladies." It is about the wives of some of the former presidents. For the most part our presidents have chosen good models for the rest of us to follow.
Another book I'm reading is about elderly people, especially those over 100. The writer is a professional photographer and the book contains photographs of elderly people from all over the world. He also has included essays by others who try to find the philosophy of the 100-plus people. It has a lot to say about wisdom. The book emphasizes wisdom more than wealth or fame. Maybe I will add more about the contents of this book later on.
