Random Thoughts: Help support the future
Congratulations to Tabor College for the large monetary gift from Joel Wiens. You never know when something great like that will happen. Joel was married to Phyllis Beu (now deceased), a Marion High School graduate. Her parents ran a hardware store here in Marion. She and Joel met at Phillips University. It is just wonderful when people make it big in the business world and share the profits with schools and other worthy organizations.
Speaking of non-profit organizations. We all have been given the opportunity to share in supporting the wonderful complex that is in the future of Unified School District #408. What a boost that will give to our Marion-Florence school. So when the election comes up in April, don't forget to put a "yes" vote for the project.
Remember, someone voted for us when we were students. I remember back in 1922, how proud we were of our new high school building. As the years pass new things come along that will enhance life for our young people. They are the ones who will be running the country in the near future. Let's show them that we back them in their dreams. It will make them better citizens and they will support the next generation.
Presidents Day doesn't seem to fit the need. I think we should still honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on their own birthdays. We wouldn't have to close down business, but put the flag up and something be said or written about them, or their day. Are you with me?
