Random Thoughts: Married folks enjoy Valentine s Day, too
Well, did you receive any valentines? I did! Nice to have a lot of children and grandchildren. Especially nice ones like mine. Do you remember the shoebox with the opening in the lid at the front of the one-room school room? Of course you don't, but I do. It was so much fun to slip a little homemade valentine in it for your special friends. The best was when the teacher drew out the valentines and read your name.
I heard on TV that Valentine's Day is not for married couples. I disagree. Those loving messages help to renew the romance in the marriage.
I'm pretty excited today (Friday). I just received a telephone call from my daughter, Wanda, who lives in Colorado Springs, that she and her daughter, Karen are flying with a friend in his private jet to this area. They will arrive late this afternoon and fly back tomorrow. On TV I've seen a couple fly to Paris for dinner. This will be a little different — no French food!
I have really gotten involved in the Civil War in my reading. A friend loaned me a little book, "My Cave Life in Vicksburg." It seems the people there took to living in caves to protect themselves from the firing of guns from both sides. What a terrible experience for them. You know what they say, "War is h — ." I'm sure it is. I've not been dodging bullets but have heard a lot from two world wars and several smaller ones.
Poor Vice President Dick Cheney probably wishes he had never seen a gun. The late-night comedians are cruel with their terrible jokes.
